Why don’t coaches teach players

Feb 15, 2020, 8:57 PM

to hold the ball out of bounds 3 or 4 seconds near the end of a half when game clock is a little over 30 seconds? Just saw it in UVA-UNC game where Va. could have held for final shot leaving only a couple of seconds for theHoles to go full court- as it was they had 7 seconds- we did the same thing in our game several times when we needed to run time off the clock - just grabbed the ball and tossed it in
In less than a second

Game clock stops after made baskets in the last minute of the game.

Also stops after made baskets in OT.

Therefore, holding the ball out of bounds will not run any more time off the clock at that point.

It doesn’t in the first half and keeps running near the end of the game when you have a good lead with 4-5 minutes left & want to use clock- I know it stops after each score in the last couple of minutes of the game

You’re embarrassing. Don’t understand the rules at all. Sounds like something a woman or child would ask

Why is that not logical? If you run

off 3 or 4 seconds after 5 scores in the last5 minutes of the game - that would be20 more seconds that the other team would not have at the end. We have lost many games at the buzzer. And at the end of the first half, 4 seconds could mean one less possession for the other team. Plus - if we didn’t quickly grab the ball after their score and jump out of bounds to throw the ball back in more seconds would run off because the 5 seconds to inbounds doesn’t start until the player has possession out of bounds under the basket. Maybe it’s you who needs to study rules
