Why is the first week of college football called “Week Zero?”

Aug 23, 2022, 7:14 PM

Seems like ridiculous Coot logic to me.

First week of the regular season = week 1, even if it’s earlier than the usual first week of the season.

Because “Zero” good games and only one from the Power 5 schools; Nebraska vs Northwestern from Ireland. The rest are just FCS schools. An appetizer weekend for the next. It should be Week 1 however, since it is week 1.

Agreed, we have zero interest in watching other than to see if any key players got injured. I think high schools started calling it week zero a few years ago because it was a very small schedule of games being played so maybe colleges or the sports media stole it from the high schools?

I'm looking forward to next year when we will start with "Week -1."

Because it was designated by a computer engineer and binary always starts with zero.

But this ^^^^^^^^^^^is the true etymology of "week 0". And sadly another stain left by CBB-

If you are talking about this week, it is because there are zero games of interest. I have heard Week Zero in High School but never before in college.
