Walk -ons & NIL , 85 man roster

Jan 9, 2023, 10:44 AM

Can a Walk on get NIL $$$, pay their own tuition and play on the Team ???? (according to the rules)

so obviously this would be a way to "stack" the roster with "walk ons" and I'm sure this has been considered by everyone so whats the "Rule"???

Does getting NIL $ automatically count toward the 85 I assume? same as getting a soccer scholie ??

thank you for that -- but wondering who can answer exactly the question ...

Do you know if BYU's walk - ons or any players in excess of the 85 can receive the NIL $$$$. ???????

Yes.

Athletes have the same right to make money as any other student. If a sociology major can convince someone to pay him 100K to attend Clemson, he can take that money.

If a walk-on can convince someone to pay him to attend Clemson and then convince Dabo to let him walk on, then he can do that.

The NCAA has basically said when it comes to NIL, "You guys figure it out. We ain't getting involved."

thanks Bret - so under this answer it seems like thee is a way to recruit more players as walk ons and they get their Tuition paid for ....

a way to "Stack" the Roster in a sense. There can't be anyway in the Universe that I'm the only one who has thought of this. ......

I don't think you understand what he is saying Bret.

He is saying what if schools loophole this NIL thing and say he we can get 150 scholarship level players. 85 on the books, and another 65 that we pay NIL and they simply bay the tuition.

Very easy to understand the question he is asking

Every BYU walk-on football player receives NIL deal from sponsor covering cost of scholarships Every Cougar, including those not on athletic scholarship, will have their tuition paid for by Utah-based Built Brands By Barrett Sallee Aug 12, 2021 at 4:08 pm ET • 2 min read USATSI

there is no such thing as an 85 man football roster

most teams have well over 100 players on the roster. you are thinking about the 85 scholarship rule.

NIL has absolutely NOTHING to do with scholarships at all.. or schools.. or football . Theoretically it is just a way for a person to make money.

the 85 rule was put into place to prevent the big time programs from "buying" all the best athletes with free rides to school. Now they are just an expectation.. that $150K worth of scholarship money is assumed.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

The school has nothing to do with NIL.. It is what the athlete gets on his own. Yes clemson and others have NIL collectives, but they are not part of the University. What NIL the student gets is earned income and taxed by the federal govt and state. So if someone walks on and gets NIL and uses it to pay tuition thats his choice. Has nothing to do with the 85 limet.

Not accurate. Saying the schools have nothing to do with NIL is like saying Clemson technically has nothing to do with IPTAY

The school cannot use NIL as a tool for recruitment.Or have any thing to to do with NIL per the NCAA. Ipatay is a recruiting tool as it pays for the schlorships of the student. It is not taxed like NIL.
