I like our team, but think #4 is the ceiling year end

Sep 5, 2022, 2:08 PM

I think we'll be improved offensively this year, but not nearly as explosive as the Watson years. I'm expecting us to be ranked offensively in that 35 to 40 range as opposed to the 100's last year. Defensively, we should be as stingy as ever and teams will have a tough time consistently running on us. However, I don't think we match up well against elite QBs with a decent OL and multiple fast/quick twitch WRs. I think Nate and Mukuba can hold up against those kind of guys, but Jones and Davis who don't have tons of speed or quickness will likely struggle. Plus, we don't have very many of those fast/quick WRs on our current roster for them to practice against to get use to that skillset. Unfortunately, the teams that are set up that way are Bama, tOSU, and UGA. IMO we need a little more speed and quickness at CB and WR to match up better with those guys.

OSU is soft as heyall. Gotten softer and softer each year since Day took over. We would destroy the Bucknuts due to the physicality vs fitness.

I must have been watching another game than the ND-OSU game. I, for one, think OSU has a very balanced team. Their defense is not soft.

They will win 93% of all games they play with that defense but vs the big boys like us, Bama and UGA that defense is soft and will get smashed like last year and the year before that, this year is even worse if you watched the ND game. They recruit big time players on D but seems to be days weak point in development.

We got Bucknuts lurkers!***

It will be an interesting year and we will not know everything after tonight.

Being considered as a #4 Team after last year is OK, but I

Sep 5, 2022, 2:22 PM

too am wondering if that is our ceiling this year..and simply going to playoff to me would be unreal start to getting back to a Natty game, and then winning it.

Glad Dabo has bigger ideas & plans than most of us!

Right??!?

Like all these "bold takes" are just grasping for straws at the moment.

Til we meet up with WF & NC State I think we all need to hold the talk of what the ceiling looks like for this team.

Heck, if we won 63-0 tonight, I wouldn't claim we are elite yet. I'd love to roll like we did in the later half of 2018 to a Natty win and stomp a hole in every squad but we got a ways to go before we throw around what this team can or won't achieve.

Pointless speculation. I would prefer to see our team play AT LEAST ONE GAME!!! before deciding what our ceiling might be. If we win out, we’re #1. If we don’t, we’re at the mercy of the professional speculators. I like our team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Seeing some elite speed and quickness on offense…

Sep 5, 2022, 2:42 PM

will be encouraging.

Not sure if we don’t have it or just haven’t shown it for whatever reasons - injuries, blown assignments, effort ????? It’s been discussed amongst the Tiger fans that I associate with.

If most are honest with themselves I think we would all take #4 in a heart beat. That means we made the playoff and lost. That would be a big bounce back year.

Man I am so sick of the glass half empty outlook from all you cry babies on here. Go and look at Wiggins & Davis as recruits. They were highly touted 4 stars, they just played behind Booth who should’ve been a 1st round pick & Goodrich who was a senior that had invested a lot of time in the program & played #### good.

What’re you talking about? We have barely seen either one of them play all that much, but I can assure you they are talented & could cover most receivers in the country. We might be about to watch the best D in program history take the field & you’re already crying about how we match up?

Dude look at UGA’s team last year, they were average in the secondary but their front seven mauled people up front so they didn’t really have to worry about their secondary. If you don’t believe me that they were average, go watch the SEC Championship game & watch Williams & Metchie run through that defense like it was made of Swiss cheese.

Point being, let’s watch some dang football first & enjoy Clemson crushing some souls this year & stop crying so #### much.

You think saying #4 is the ceiling is "glass half empty"?

Sep 5, 2022, 3:14 PM

I think if look at the roster objectively and look at the landscape of college football, finishing #4 is a good year for this team. I'm just saying that on paper and looking at the guys we have at WR and CB that we know are going to play, we can get better talent-wise in those areas. I actually think the young guys at those spots are more talented than the veterans, but they likely won't have enough experience for it to make a huge difference this year. I think Williams and Randall are going to be absolute studs for us, but they'll like need at least a year of seasoning. Jones has played a ton, so I absolutely know what his strengths and weaknesses are. Davis hasn't played as much, but when he did play there were things that obviously stuck out. That's not saying that both guys are bad players. I just think they have limitations that can be exposed with right personnel. I'm saying that there's probably only 3 teams that could actually do it. That's just looking at things objectively and not so much with the orange colored glasses that I'd love to do.

Sep 5, 2022, 3:13 PM

Our ceiling depends on our QB/offensive play. The D can hold their own with anyone however, they’ll wear down if on the field 70-80% of the time, any D would.

Hoping for the best and a greatly improved QB/offense.

Re: You MUST have a very mobile QB to compete for…….

100% correct. Elite offenses have QBs that can extend plays and move the chains with their legs when necessary. DJ has to be able to get those 6-8 yard runs after making people miss. This is a must in the colllege game.

It’s weird to me that you can declare a ceiling before actually watching us play a single snap. Maybe, just maybe, it would be smart to actually watch a game or three before making such an assessment. Otherwise it’s just a guess
