No doubt it's a terrible contract. Who's to blame for this whole thing? The former commissioner and each school has some responsibility for this terrible contract. The root cause is the poor football this league has been playing for years. Go look at the empty stadiums every Saturday. There's only a handful of schools who are truly invested in football. If you want a great TV deal you have to have eyeballs on your product. The only way to get the contract they got was the longevity of it. They had to know the day was coming when the other conferences would dwarf them in TV money.
I’m pretty sure everyone (including Clemson) knew it was a bad deal to add the extra 10 year extension on at the time. However, when the deal was signed it was clearly evident some big things were about to happen for our program evidenced by wins over UGA, LSU, Auburn and others. The new contract also gave us a home game with Notre Dame that first year. So, the last thing Clemson needed in 2013/2014 is a bunch of conference chaos to derail our playoff and Natty plans. I personally hate it now, but I would do it all over again for those 6 years.
