Am I wrong

2

Aug 11, 2023, 10:16 AM

When I say that Klubnik struggled in the bowl game because UT had a full week to prepare for a QB who had NEVER started a collegiate game? That game does not show the true skills of our quarterback and certainly with a new OC, our offense will be much improved over what we saw in the last game. Dabo and his staff had an almost impossible job trying to get a game plan Klubnik could run against a quality team like Tennessee. The same Clemson will not take the field in 2023.

He didn't struggle that much between the 20s but we had no good calls in the red zone. I'm looking for a lot of red zone improvement in this new offense.

He moved the ball up and down the field.

We just couldn't do anything in the Red zone.

That was not of his own doing. The question was about his struggling. When he had time, he played pretty well until we hit the red zone.

He threw for 320 yards, offense hit almost 500 yards and we ran 75 plays. If we had any red zone efficiency we would have been right there. Missing 3 FGs didn't help and the 2 INTs he threw I chalk up to pressing and playing catch up. One of them probably to inexperience.

Given the constant pressure he was under and the lack of adjustments by Streeter, he played pretty well. If people want to think he's not going to be good b/c he didn't light it up in his first career start s much as some thought, let them. I think they will be proven wrong. Not even sure why we'd be worried at this point.

I think he will have a great year and will just continue to get better as we get deeper into the season.

You're not wrong. He took second team reps all year except for the 15 bowl practices. I see huge improvements coming and I'm starting to really get a feeling this team is on a mission.

Im letting the UNC game and UTn game equal a wash. I am not worried about Cade. UTn game, we had more yds, more first downs, more time of possession but fewer points. Red zone plays sucked. Cade should have played more meaningful snaps last year before he took over first start in a big bowl game.

2022 will be the year to remember as "Hindsight is 20/20!"

I think you meant to say: "Hindsight is 2022."
Of course, we all know, if you aren't one of the lead dogs, the (hind)sight never changes.
That's why Streeter had to go.

I do not think our OL played very well and he never seemed to be comfortable. Our WR did not play well most of the season and our OC refused to get him needed experience by sticking with a guy that could not even make the easy throws. Just seemed like the whole game was an uphill battle.

Really wish Klubnik could have gotten in more. Would have been huge going into this season.

I see your point but I still don't think he had a bad game considering the points you made about our OL and WR. As I mentioned above:

He threw for 320 yards, offense hit almost 500 yards and we ran 75 plays. If we had any red zone efficiency we would have been right there. Missing 3 FGs didn't help and the 2 INTs he threw I chalk up to pressing and playing catch up. One of them probably to inexperience.

It was almost halftime b4 the Clemson coaches got our center to block the blitzing LB from Tinysee. Every time our OC called for a play with an empty backfield, the Tinyc LB blitzed -- untouched! Only after the TV talkers pointed it out, did our OL try to block him.

Klubnik didn't struggle like you think. He had 320 passing yards on them. That more yards than our offense had in any game during the season, minus WF. The O-line is what struggled, and the offensive play calling was terrible in red zone. Take into account TN was tied for 13th in the nation in red zone defense, you get what happened.

A few made field goals would have helped.***

position and the confidence of the offense. I wanted to win but knew it was going to be a tough task. This year, it will be different.

As bad as the game was, a made field goal every time we were in easy field goal range could have won that game.

Agreed, plus momentum is lost each time you walk away with no points after a good drive. Also puts more weight on the defenses shoulders.

And some improved pass coverage. If we could just get back

a few of those deep balls by the Coots and Tenn.

Regardless of red zone struggles and protection issues, the offense still looked better with him in there. Our offense is going to be great this year.

An OC will make a difference this year. A QB is at the mercy of the plays being called and the needed adjustments not being made. Go Tigers !!!

We'll be just fine on offense...better than fine...

Two key problems in Orange Bowl...

- Klubnik pocket presence...several times he took off running when he could have/should have stepped into a pocket...He did this many times successfully in high school...college is different...

I have zero doubt Cade worked on this and we'll see a difference there...

- Play calling...not all bad...but enough bad ..especially red zone play calling...
Dabo fixed this when he hired Riley..

Anyone counting out Clemson this year will be very disappointed..
