Anyone else scratching their head over our out of conference schedule?

I get we are solidly in the top ten. Can we hold that ranking playing UNCG and Manhattan?! Shouldn’t we be playing teams like Vandy and Tenn?

Rankings mean squat, wins mean everything.

No one schedules like that because they don't want to burn weekend starting

While I understand what you're saying, it shouldn't matter if we take a few more L's early on. Don't have to burn our pitchers. We can still pitch different guys, keep low pitch counts etc. But let the guys see good hitters and make mistakes. Likewise with hitters. Let them see and get used to better pitching.

Plus as others have said, more national exposure. Especially mid-west and west coast.

This schedule was also inherited by Monte. Out of conference schedules are made two years in advance, so 2025 will be the first year Bakich has control of the schedule.

But no, they should not be playing midweeks against Vandy or Tennessee. That would be brutal.

This is correct. This was Montes last schedule. I don’t like playing Georgia just once. Think we replaced our home game vs Georgia with Kansas State. We also don’t play COC and we play Upstate 3 times all midweek. Odd. I am excited about opening up next season away from home though

In one of EB's preseason interviews, he said the new UGA coach only wanted to play Clemson once. So we had to find another game late in the process. I am assuming that is why Upstate is on the schedule 3x this year.

Definitely looking forward to seeing what they have cooked up for 2025. I hope we play in one of the showcase events in Texas or Cali. Would be great for national exposure.

I can see coach scheduling some tough teams non conf like ecu and a few others. It’s similar too football. Still gotta have small road trips and play the smaller schools and some bigger ones sprinkled in.

And we would not be going to Tennessee for a midweek and they would not be coming here ...... so a moot point really.

I noticed the Tigers play at UGA on April 23 but no return game at Clemson. What's up with that? Thought we always play two midweek games with them- one in Clemson and one in Athens.

Read above from another poster….the uga coach didn’t want two games for some reason. Thats prolly why we got k state late.

Cowards and a shame. Been doing Home and Home with them as long as I can remember. They will probably drop us all together once the SEC adds Texas and OU for next season. Probably will never return this year's game to Clemson next.

you should look at the RPI

I initially thought the same thing you did. For as long as I can remember, Clemson has never really played any big-name teams in nonconference series during the regular season, with the exception of South Carolina. They do usually play several midweek games against Georgia and Costal, but the weekend series are rarely ever against other power-5 teams. I was afraid this might be hurting the Tigers' strength of schedule, but if you look at the RPI right now, Clemson is actually ranked #2 in the country behind only Arkansas. ( https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/baseball/d1/rpi ) Now maybe this puts too much reliance on winning the SC series, but if the Tigers can already get this good of an RPI with the current schedule, why take on the risk of additional losses by making it more difficult? Clemson's strength of schedule is evidently very good, despite how lackluster it may seem outside of South Carolina. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what Bakich chooses to do next year and onward once he gets to make his own schedule. I have full faith he'll make shrewd decisions, just as he has so far with his roster utilization and game philosophy. I'll admit it could be more entertaining to watch the Tigers play some better nonconference teams, but whether or not this would actually help the team I don't know.
