Dabo did a pretty good job this year

despite what the trolls and shrills tell you. This team got better and I expect another off season for the offense will produce a different and more explosive team next year. Critics are a dime a dozen and always find ways to diminish success. Go Tigers!!!

I agree. I think he can do a better job if he makes use of the portal for those positions that are really weak...WR and Oline. He might have to bring in a QB also.

means playing the best people not the most senior people

it is clear as day that decisions were made against playing the best (freshmen over senior) players.

The ACC is a borderline non Power5 league and the number of wins achieved is a low number for a completely 4-5star roster. This season was not good by any measure other than it could have been worse.

Over the last 2 seasons we have seen multiple decisions made that led to everything we experienced as fans in 2023.

Who are you saying was slighted playing time wise Nike? And would you agree that a degree of both management styles are required in a sport like football where some things you have no control over happens as a part of the game?

It was tough sledding, they stayed competitive in every game and turned it around at end. I just hope OC and QB second year is as good as DC 2nd year

the offense and defense looked the same from start to finish.....sick or no sick.....injury or no injury....experience or no experience. The excuses don't hold water unless we've truly been sick the last 3-4 years.

That’s why we lost 4 games. We outgained 3 of those 4 teams. Miami did slightly outgain us, but a fumble 6 ended up being the difference in the game.

guess what? We turned the ball over a lot in 2016 as well, but we had OFFENSIVE TALENT that was capable of overcoming that...............We don't have that anymore. Maybe.......JUST MAYBE Dabo hits the portal for better talent in needed positions and we turn it around.........time will tell.

The team could’ve mailed it in. Dabo held that team and locker room together, and the staff came up with enough to win 4 games straight/

I don’t blame Dabo for the crazy turnovers early on which either directly or indirectly led to 4 losses. That’s where the crazies come into play.

Great job Dabo and staff!

A lot will come down to pass protection. That little extra time for Cade to find his receivers and for his receivers to find some separation could make all the difference in the world.

Cade has been pressured 30% of the time .

There’s nothing radically crazy about that at all.

The pass rush is a 2-3 second part of the game. Nobody has time to stand there like a statue behind a brick wall. It is the QBs responsibility to move efficiently in the pocket to buy time and wait on things to break open. This is the primary problem we’re seeing. Cade panics under a normal pass rush. He’s not stepping up in a pocket. He’s literally missing open guys on most every incompletion. He’s stuck on his primary guy and falls apart if he’s covered.

That’s the biggest thing affecting our passing game right now, not the OL.

Cade needs to grow up. Period. The rest including WRs are not the major issue.

You can't "buy time" in the pocket when the pocket is quickly collapsing all around you. And when he rolls out to avoid the rush, you eliminate half the field that he actually sees. And throwing on the run manifested into several INTs because he needs to be able set his feet and he needs to lean into his throws from his front foot and not falling backwards as he throws, which is a bad, mechanical habit for him.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No sir. Youre acting like the entire DL is busting thru

Nov 29, 2023, 5:14 PM

Apparently you’ve never noticed when a seasoned QB steps “up”, meaning wherever the heck he needs to go and try to keep as much field in front of them as possible? Maybe you should rethink that?

You mentioned when a QB rolls out he shrinks the field.. EXACTLY. That’s why abandoning the pocket should be done only as a last means. Cade ALWAYS rolls and almost exclusively to his right. That’s exactly the point.

His mechanics aren’t the issue. Buying time in the pocket for that extra second or three is the key area needing improvement. He panics and runs for his life.

His vision needs much improvement as well. He’s missing downfield and check down guys alike.

So yeah, being truly pressured only 3 of 10 plays isn’t all that crazy. Panicking at the first sign of a rush isn’t truly pressure.

Correct?

giving credit for improving without giving acknowledging blame for starting at a such a low level from which to improve is only a half accurate analysis. The offense was too inconsistent and sloppy for too much of the year to sweep all that under the rug. And as usual the play-calling and game management were poor.

But yes, on the other side, credit to Dabo and the staff for not themselves giving up or letting the team do that either, once things turned south. Their perseverance lead to a pretty darn good finish, all things considered.

Turnovers is one element, yes. It's a false dichotomy to assume that they are all and only the players fault and never the coaches on any level. And no, the ole "coaches don't make plays" line doesn't work, but it answers a challenge that isn't being made . . . there are different levels of responsibility - execution and development/discipline.

Consistent inconsistency and sloppiness with turnovers, missed blocks, WR's not getting open sketchy QB play, and so forth if they persist enough, point towards an element of developmental coaching and discipline.

Not to mention that play-calling and game management are routinely bad.

No one and nothing is perfect, but the offense looked lost for great swaths of the first 8 games, and I'm supposed to assume the staff was lighting the sky on fire but the players just sucked all on their own? I don't think so.

We did something wrong in the off-season and leading up to the Duke game. We should not have been rail-roaded by Duke to start the season. We can talk about how they were senior-heavy or better than expected...Coaches are expected to know what they are up against and have the team mentally prepared. Duke won 9 games in 2022 and returned most of their team, and were playing at home. We had to be prepared and we weren't.

Bringing in Weitz ended-up being a great move, but how we didn't know that Gunn wasn't ready is beyond me.

I don't know what has to happen with our offense or our QB and WR recruiting and development, but man, is it frustrating. Defense was great.

In this age of college football, keeping a perennial CFP team focused after starting 4-4 to finish the season with four good wins is a commendable accomplishment for a coach. Truly something to build on and recruit on...enough red flags to get everyone's attention but not so much of a dumpster fire that serious people start throwing dirt on us. Klubnik and his receivers should be spending a lot of free time together working on their timing and connection.

Honestly College Football completely changed these last 2-3 years and you have to have patience and give guys a chance to adapt to the new rules. The team lost 4 games they should have won and did not give up.
