Bourbon Talk - Everyday Drinker

What is your everyday drinker bourbon? In the last week, I have settled on Old Granddad 114. There are far more expensive bourbons that I own or have tried, that I do not like as much.

I would be interested in hearing from any bourbon drinker that cares to respond, but am also sending the bat signal to:

Woodford Reserve Double Oak - 2 to 3 times a week. Last year was mostly spent on Larceny Small Batch.

I recently tried Jim Beam double oak and it was surprisingly good and it’s cheap.

For me, nothing beats McKenna BnB. It’s not an everyday drink anymore. After it won Best Whiskey Award in San Fran, it shot from $35 a bottle to $55 and moved to a spot behind the counter.

Evan Williams green label in the plastic jug.

If family is visiting from afar I make sure to have Evan Williams white label because the glass is more classy.

Woodford Reserve, Rough Rider, Jefferson Ocean, Four Roses, Angels Envy. I don't drink bourbon everyday but these are what I get when I do.

You guys with the high price Bourbon put my bar to shame. My standard is Buffalo Trace with Blanton's Eagle Rare, Weller Green label and Weller 107 when I can get them.

Recently had several bottles of Bib & Tucker Double Char (not the regular Bib & Tucker) which I highly recommend. It's a new offering and unlike the ones I named, it's available and probably the smoothest of the bunch. It's on the sweet side and has a decent amount of rye making it flavorful. It's around $50 for 750 ml so not overly expensive.

Hype

There's nothing at all wrong with your bar. Those are all solid bourbons. Higher price isn't always indicative of better quality and taste.

IMO, many of the more expensive bottles don't live up to the hype. In my bar, I have several $40-$60 bottles that taste as good, or nearly as good as the few bottles I have that cost $80+.

I like it right around the holidays. Have a new bottle of Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend that I will open this weekend.

Have a couple of bottles of Blood Oath Pact 6 for Christmas thru New Years. Now that the kids are grown and gone, I can finally afford some stuff I like 😂

The Magnus Cigar blend is one of the best I've tried so far. I'm generally frugal, though, and doubt I will ever spring for a bottle.

I don't drink every day either, and rarely drink during the week. When I do, it's two ounces and I'm done. I save the better and more expensive bourbon for bourbon tastings with friends.

Yep, in terms of easily available and affordable, it's hard to beat. If I could get Buffalo Trace at MSRP on the regular it would be something stocked at all times in my bar. As it stands Makers is it.

Everyday drinker that’s cheaper is 1792 and Elijah Craig small batch but going up a step I like old forester 1910 and 1920 and throw in jack Daniels single barrel barrel proof.

Love some good Bourbon talk!!!

I actually just got in from the bar downstairs at the Hilton Austin talking to the bar manager. We were discussing bourbon and what else he could bring in that would do well at his bar. He's got a good selection, btw.

Being that my personal bar is nearing 90 bottles, I bounce around from bottle to bottle depending on my mood. I will share with you this though, my newest favorite is Bardstown Origin Series (White Label)! At $46 it drinks as good as many $100-150 bottles I've had.

I've only been able to find it at Total Wine (word is getting out and it's getting harder to find):

https://www.totalwine.com/spirits/bourbon/bardstown-bourbon-origins-series-straight-bourbon/p/2126217739?s=802&igrules=true

Outside that, you can go wrong with the following bottled at these price points below. If I was starting a collection, These 14 bottles at lower prices and easier access would be a great starting point!

$20-25 - 1792, Benchmark Full Proof, Benchmark Top Floor, Makers Mark

$30 - Buffalo Trace, Makers Mark 46, Old Grand Dad 114

$40 - Makers 46 Cask Stength

$45-$47 - Bardstown Origin Series (White Label...High Rye Mashbill), 1792 Bottled in Bond

$50 - Bardstown Origin Series (Black Label... Bottled in Bond Wheated mashbill). 1792 Full Proof

$60-$70 - EH Taylor Small Batch - Simply some great Buffalo Trace Bourbon!, Old Forester 1910 and 1920

$80 - Smoke Wagon UnCut/UnFiltered. Others Smokewagons are okay, but they all wish they were this good. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (Make sure it's at least 10 years old, and at least $130. This year's C923 was tough to find but it was a monster of bottle.

This is a nice list. In general, I haven't given enough attention to Bardstown bourbons. I'll be looking out for the two you mentioned and a few other bottles on your list.

70 bottles...but, like you it means I jump around with some 'go to's'. Those would be multiples in stock, such as:
Eagle Rare
Heaven Hill BiB
Widow Jane 10
Uncle Nearest Rye (which I learned of in a post earlier this summer! Thanks!)
High West Double Rye and...

World Whiskey Society 10 Year Straight Bourbon Whiskey Port Cask finish...which distilled in Oklahoma, actually. It's also a wheated bourbon (49%). If you're in the Alpharetta area, you can get it for $69.99 at All-Time on Windward Parkway (apparently Total Wine has it at $109). I would encourage you to do so. You'll be surprised at how smooth it is, especially at 102 proof. Plus, the bottle top...a skull!

Just about any BiB makes a good everyday drinker

For me an everyday sipper/drinker should be easy to find, $30ish (cheap enough to mix) and good enough sip. Something you would not care if your Gamecock buddy mixed with coke all night A few I reach for, in no particular order:

ODG BiB
ODG 114
Cooper's Craft BiB
Old Forster 100
Larceny
Elijah Criag
Bench Mark (Top Floor or Single Barrel)
Buffalo Trace
Heaven Hill BiB
Sazerac Rye
