CLEM/FSU start their own league

Less than 1% of happening, it's more of a question of why not? Instead of joining a crowded table, they could create their own power conference with better regionality, set their terms, etc.

As it seems to be an unbreakable marriage (or hostage situation) let the ACC become the conference of the state of North Carolina ( + an odd scattering of schools ranging from Stanford to Boston College).

Hypothetically, a few other major market ACC schools would follow. It's been said there are 1 or more Power5 schools with bones to pick concerning their own conferences. Additionally, there are a few attractive mid majors that could be called up.

Just an idea but it would like this:
●Clemson
●Florida St.
●Virginia
●Miami
●Georgia Tech
●Memphis
●South Florida
●Tulane
●SMU¹
●Texas A&M²
●West Virginia³

Seems like a solid list for starters and looks very much like a Power conference and at the very least they could compete with the ACC and Big 12.

¹ SMU joined the ACC largely because of FSU and Clemson.
² Tex A&M not overjoyed by the SEC allowing big brother Texas into the sandbox
³ Big12 & WVU has always been an odd pairing, regionally and otherwise.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

VT still has a better football fan base than most of the ACC minus Clemson and FSU. I can’t think of one better honestly…

Nancy State?

How does this group get any more money from a TV contract than the current ACC? Also, there’s not way A&M is giving up that fat SEC check for a chance to play Tulane and USF in a poverty conference.

After that the rest of the ACC football programs become financial drags.

Steal West Va from the Big XII and we have 9 solid east coast / southern football programs and a solid slate of games weekly to bank on.

Invite the remaining ACC teams to stay together for all other sports, and to form their own football division with their own media rights payout with some crossover football scheduling included (our current G5 games). Add a few regional programs like UConn, Temple, USF, Memphis to bolster other sports and help round out that second football division.

They might have to.
FSU and Clemson trying to join the SEC and B1G seems like Cinderella showing up at 12:01am to the ball. All the reports I have read say that both of those conferences don't want either Clemson or FSU to join. So the question becomes if not the ACC then where?

Easy answer: Big 12
