from the Clemson fan base?
Personally, I thought Clemson could have won that game last night. In fact, I kept thinking Clemson was going to win. The missed opportunities just proved to be too much.
Just curious what the Clemson fanbase expects:
- Make play offs every year
- Make play offs every other year
- Make play offs every 3rd year
- Once every 5 years
- Make a good bowl each season
- Make a bowl each season

We play in the ACC, our rival has been really bad, we have top 10 talent, and we are paying our coach $100 million.
We should expect to compete for a national title every year. This teams wasn’t close. Even if we made the playoffs, we would have gotten blown off the field. That’s unacceptable.

Playing in the ACC, we SHOULD expect to make the Playoffs every year. And, with good QB play, it happened, six straight times.

I don’t even think it’s enough to just make the playoffs if we aren’t going to be competitive.
Ohio State crushed us in 2020. These past 2 teams would have been crushed as well. We have to be able to compete at least.

That’s football. It’s going to happen.
I do think we have taken a step back in recruiting, especially for some key positions (missing on 5-star DE’s and having to take a developmental 3-star, etc).
However, I am still hopeful, and don’t think it’s time to burn it all down and start over.

Hard to say with the NIL. Clemson is not going to be able to compete at that level long term and soon there will be schools start to separate. The ones with the big money and alumni bases.
If this is the case, we fall to a top 50 program and honestly if the NIL destroys college football the way I think it will. I will not be watching anyway.
Heck not even sure how much of the games I watch today. And note this is from a former diehard college football fan.
So expectations are to make the playoffs I would say every few years or so. We cannot expect the level of consistency that we had over the last decade. My expectations are also that we hire coaches that have proven themselves. This as been a glaring issue all season especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Class answer cotiger1. Agree on all this. Time will tell on playoff appearances with portal, NIL and expanded playoffs.
Before expansion my expectation was each QB got to the playoff with a chance to win it. Call it every 3 years. We’ve been way off that the past two years. We should dominate most of our ACC games. We used to but now we don’t. Our coaching staff is not recruiting as well (portal, NIL will be headwinds for us trying to do it the way we’ve done it before). But I also think our coaches aren’t doing enough to get the most out of the players we recruit. Our approach with the portal is slow and not working. Will be interesting to see if/how our coaches change.

I don’t expect to win every game , I do expect to win the games we should, and compete. But the coordinators are not good enough. They need help, or need to go. The offensive play calling was terrible. When fans pay thousands of dollars to iptay and Clemson is paying millions to coaches, they and we deserve better than Dabo hiring project coaches. We use to have a great development program. But the last 3 years it hasn’t been good. I want what Dabo preaches “ the best is the standard.” We didn’t win every game, but we were a tough outing for anyone.

I expect to be in the running for the playoffs each year but with NIL my expectations are changing. If what i think will happen because of NIL then I guess I will just watch pro ball because I have no interest in watching two professional leagues. Especially one that Usc (cal), Osu, Bama, Texas, and other huge schools dominate each year because they have the best team money can buy. I watched my last college game till August last night and look forward till next year.

Yep this is where I am as well. I really hope the presidents figure this out before CFB really declines into the abyss as many diehards stop watching due to lack of a level playing field. Which was already an issue and is now getting worse.

Beat the average ACC teams...win 10-11 games make the playoffs some years not others still become a solid top 10 team every year...Easy to beat ACC teams where defense is secondary but tough when we go up against the big boys that have a different set of rules...we're stuck on those 50/50 balls right now...to an SEC fan 50/50 means 50% of the student athletes will never pass freshman English before they go pro or back to the prison farm and the other 50% think English was a foreign language!

Thank you. I too thought we were going to and could have. Not sure I can say I believe Tenn was the better team overall, but they clearly were where it mattered (their secondary and receivers versus ours.
Expectations? Dabo set the bar pretty high for us. I expect to be the favored team to win conference most every year and actually win the conference no less than 7x every ten years. In the years we don't win conference I expect us to be in a significant bowl game. I expect us to never get blown out.

With the playoffs expanding and the acc down I expect we should make the playoffs just about every year. Actually compete for titles in not sure with the NIL and all.

No, the fan base expects that highly paid coaches and superior talent doesn’t lose to TWO first year coaches and South Carolina with mind numbingly inept play calling. If we were losing to teams FAVORED over us, as was the case with past Clemson era teams, that’s one thing. But we are losing to teams who are NOT favored over us. It’s coaching, pure and simple and for what Dabo and the other coaches are being paid compared to previous era Clemson coaches, it’s not acceptable. We keep losing to supposedly inferior talent. No excuse for that.

Hire competent offensive and defensive coordinators . Streeter has flubbed up both times that the national stage was set for Clemson this season. Wes has the Tennessee players laughing at his group’s ability.
With competent coordinators, this team does not mess up this season.
Moving forward, Dabo needs to hit his own goals that he has every season. Win the opener and closer, state, and conference. The division goal is now obsolete.

I have said this before, but it bears repeating.
Any fan base should be happy if their team is in the top 25.
They should be ecstatic if their team is in the top 10.
They should be thankful if their team makes the CFP.
The problem, in my mind, is that our not reaching the CFP was a failure of our own making.
