A cockroach species commonly called a "palmetto bug" is the American cockroach. They prefer damp conditions and often are found in sewers, woodpiles and mulch . Typically outdoors.
German cockroaches are the ones that most people think of when they think of cockroaches. They will infest your house, especially the kitchen and anywhere food is around. These are the nasty little critters no1 wants around. They will INFEST your house and never leave.
Plametto bugs will typically stay OUTSIDE of your house, or in basements/crawlspaces and will only seek shelter indoors to escape bad weather. They usually will head back outside when the weather turns. They are not the ones you see scampering around in the hundreds when you turn on your kitchen light, or open your cabinet.
Any 1 who ever grew up in the low country is not afraid of palmetto bugs. Grab it , toss it outside. It is as harmless as a daddy longleg . Kinda creepy but harmless.
NO1 wants the German version.
