College football writers have become the dumbest amongst us

Their ratings for a teams success is legitimately how many transfers they brought in. Has nothing to do with the talent already on a team, development, or anything else. Could bring in 20 c level transfers and they would swear you are on the path to a championship. Why are they so obsessed with the portal to the point of foaming at the mouth over it???

We have seen “best college coaches” polls last couple days with our coach behind people like Brian Kelly Jim Harbaugh Mike Norvell - men who have not consistently won like our coach OR taken home two champs.

Maybe Smart is better - I would not want the deaths associated with his tenure or the speeding or the graduation rates. Don’t like his MF GD tirades in his team speeches either. So keep him.

Our Coach is the best in college or maybe a sliver of space below Smart.

I could win a National Championship with the recruiting field he has in Georgia… com’on it’s not close but everyone wants to hit on Dabo because he points to Jesus for his success.

Yep, he always seems to be the punching bag, or maybe it seems that way seeing I’m a die hard Tiger fan.

a fantastic coach. You can point to all of Georgia's built in advantages, but the fact is that they went 30 years between titles before Kirby won two in a row. Beyond that, they went 25 seasons without ever even going into the postseason with a shot at a title until Kirby got them to the title game in his 2nd season. Richt was universally considered a good coach and he couldn't get it done there.

And, yes, it's pretty easy to recruit top 10 classes at Georgia, but Kirby isn't just doing that. He's recruiting at a level that even Saban was struggling to match, and now Saban is out of that picture.

There's also the fact that Kirby was a helluva DC at Bama, and he has seemingly taken that defense with him to Georgia. Saban was obviously a defensive genius in his own right, but I don't think its a coincidence that Bamas record breaking defenses (2011, 2016, etc) were under Smart and that their level of play dropped a bit after his departure.

People like to pretend that a monkey could win titles at certain programs yet there are so many examples of just how untrue that is. Even the best programs with all of the advantages need the right coach to win titles.

-Pete Carrol is the only coach to win a title at USC in the last 46 years

- Mack Brown is the only coach to win a title at Texas since 1970

-Ohio State didn't win a title from 1968 until 2002

-Texas A&M, despite all of the money, hasn't won a title since 1938!

-Notre Dame, with all of their history and their own TV network, hasn't won since 1998

-Even Bama had a 17 year dry spell between 1992 and 2009

When you look at the list of coaches that have won national titles there are alot more HOF-type coaches than there are Gene Chiziks. The lost of coaches that have won multiple titles is even more exclusive. We are very fortunate to have Dabo Swinney, but Kirby didn't just fluke his way to two national titles, and he's showing no signs of slowing down either with his current level of recruiting and his biggest road block retiring.

The narrative around Kirby changes. It used to be, "he does more with less" and "he can't win the big game." Following two championships it's become, "well, anybody could win a championship at Georgia." That kind of lunacy is easier than just admitting the guy is a great coach and elite recruiter.

stacked in your favor. Kirby Smart has about $50 million a year above and beyond what Clemson has to work with, just from SEC tv money alone. Not to mention the ESPN Shills of the world constantly promoting the SEC as the best football conference, bar none. I believe some kids are actually brought up brainwashed to believe they cannot be successful or have a path to the NFL that does not include playing for an SEC school. NIL and the unlimited transfer rule have just increased the disparity between the "haves" and the "have nots".

And yet, Dabo Swinney has won two Nattys, both times knocking off the GOAT among college coaches, and in the 2018 season, knocking off what the Pawl Finebaums and Stephen A. Smiths of the world said was THE GREATEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM OF ALL TIME, 2018 Ala-BAMA.

Now, the noise says that Clemson is done, due to our culture of actually DEVELOPING players, rather than beaming in talent that is somehow superior just because they wear the badge "transfer". Current recruiting and future commits say "Not so fast, my friend!" 9-4 was indeed a down year, but it was only a temporary aberration. We are on the road back to the top of the mountain, starting in 2024. And, Kirby Smart and his pack of mangy mutts will be the first victim. Harrumph.

You can't evaluate talent without seeing them play. The teams don't play 365. The writers need to get paid when the players aren't playing. Writing controversial takes gets people to click. Clicks tell employers people are reading this writer. I'm not saying it's honorable but I don't fault them for trying to stay relevant in the offseason.

See it for what it actually is. Dabo came out and was very open about how much he thought the portal was a bad idea. These guys simply cant wait to punish him for that opinion. They are hope for a bad year from Clemson just to prove their point. Dabo just needs to punish some teams next year and put the ######### in their place

Agreed. I imagine there are financial incentives out there that perhaps we aren't aware of to advance the narrative of portal / NIL support. That would explain why the support for these programs seem disproportionate to common sense analogy that it is damaging to college football overall.

Clemson has made coaching hires that would measure a 9.9 on the Richter Scale of college football hires.

Yet , in their assessments most are completely disregarding the moves and given no credence as a factor in our teams improvement.

Not only is it disingenuous it is intentionally so.

Collectively , these reviews rival Paul Finebaum on the scale of accuracy and need be ignored

Because the portal is an excellent way to add talent and improve your team with having to wait a few years. Florida State went from 5-7 in 2021 to 13-1 in 2023 because of some transfers that elevated the talent there.
