As expected, UGA placing all the blame on the dead staffer and trying to distance themselves.

It is her fault. Drunk and speeding. Sad and tragic but her fault nonetheless.

I understand why some of you guys resent UGA, but some of the things posted about this seems deeply at odds with all the "character" stuff you seem so proud of.

Who rented the car? UGA

Whose players and recruits was she entertaining? UGA’s

How many times had staffers taken these type trips to Atlanta? Any one want to bet this was the first time?

This case is a plaintiff lawyers dream…

Drunk and speeding in a car that belonged to who?

I honestly have not read much about this. What I did read earlier is that the vehicle belonged to UGA. Is this true? If so, wouldn’t the university have some responsibility? Not saying it’s 2 million dollars worth, but the university can’t think they have no responsibility.

If someone driving a truck from a trucking company or a police cruiser from a sheriff’s department is involved in an accident, much less a deadly one, they seem to always have to pay out something.

Hate to break this to you, but I don't resent UGA.

I resent corruption and willful ignorance though.

Yes, she was the one driving. She is responsible for the wreck.

But, the unanswered questions are out there. Why was she driving a vehicle rented by the UGA athletic Department and going out on the town with football players in the vehicle? Did the university know that was happening? Did they approve? Was she instructed to do so as part of her duties as an employee of the athletic department? Were any of the players underage and drinking? Was the university aware of the facility the players and their employee were in? Did the university approve of it? Was the employee instructed to take them there?

I have no idea what the answers to any of those questions are. But, I'm sure those, and scores of others, are being asked by the attorneys. Depending on the answers, UGA may not be responsible at all, or they may be responsible to some degree.

UGA will settle out of court like Clemson did for T Hipps***

Agree. Plaintiffs go after deep pockets.

The way the law works...

both the owner and the operator of the vehicle are liable. Based on the punitive aspects of the claim, I's just surprised the Willock family isn't seeking more than the reported $2 million.

Character would be not piling on the deceased staffer and showing some respect for her and her family.

Well, where I worked, if an employee was driving a company vehicle (any time of the day or night) and had an accident, the driver may be charged but the company was also liable. After few lawsuits, company cars went away.

Sadly, in this case, the driver and UGA employee is deceased and now UGA is the last one standing. In all likelihood, they'll settle.

It's really Kirby's fault for letting this kind of activity go down right under his nose.... no excuse for it.

It doesn’t take character or lack thereof to realize UGA is and should have to pay big on this one. She was an employee and was driving a vehicle rented by the school or an organization affiliated by the school. Game over! UGA should and will settle with this family. The whole situation is extremely sad for these families.

Read the article. There is a $2 MM limit on lawsuits filed against state entities in GA.

$2 million is the max they are allowed to sue for

He will win. The girl driving had a terrible driving record and had no business driving players or recruits around. Terrible job by the university. It’s her fault

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Father of Georgia's Devin Willock seeks $2 million from cras

Apr 26, 2023, 9:09 AM

It is also the university’s fault for putting her in that position.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just the tip of the iceberg here......

1

Apr 26, 2023, 8:13 AM

This is notice of intent to sue which is required in GA to be filed before the actual suit is filed. The $2M amount is the cap allowed in GA vs state agencies. The BIG $$$ lawsuits will come later against UGA Athletic Assoc/whatever their IPTAY is called, Jalen Carter, Enterprise, Kirby Smart and whomever and whatever they deem has any possible involvement in this and any $$$$. The girl has none and she was a glorified babysitter/paid escort BUT a paid representative of the UGA athletic dep and football program, thus the problem for UGA.

The other problem is that the article SAYS that she was provided alcohol at UGA Athletic sponsored events during the time before the crash and she was transporting recruits to a strip joint. Not good and violation of NCAA rules. All part of the current UGA/KirbyCopter culture.

UGA will settle the $2M lawsuit but they couldnt settle anything until it was filed. They are state owned with protocols. The big $$$ and the nastiness is coming. Get your popcorn it may be epic!

Re: Just the tip of the iceberg here......

Apr 26, 2023, 9:13 AM

That comment gave me an interesting thought. The lawsuit could not be filed for more than $2MM but could GA actually settle for a lot more along with a confidentiality agreement to make it go away? That wouldn’t surprise me at all.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Father of Georgia's Devin Willock seeks $2 million from cras

Apr 26, 2023, 5:47 PM

3rd party liability is UGA. The university will be forced to pay all or most if this. They will settle out of court. They owned the vehicle. Not really fair, but that's how this will go.
