FSU screwed advertisers.

in my opinion, money does and will drive all decisions going forward in these high profile bowl game opt outs. If Orange bowl advertisers shelled out big dollars for air time or gifts for players and only a few watched, this probably is driving board members of these bowls nuts. What happens if players start opting out of playoffs next year? Hope they never decide to go “pay per view” because I will have to check out. This needs fixing! Jk I would still pay to see Tigers play

"Over ten million viewers watched Georgia end 2023 the way it began, with a record-setting bowl blowout.

Saturday’s Georgia-Florida State Orange Bowl averaged 10.3 million viewers on ESPN, per Nielsen fast-nationals, marking the largest audience for the game since 2017 (Wisconsin-Miami: 11.73M), excluding years in which it served as a College Football Playoff semifinal.

Georgia’s bowl-record 60-point rout, which peaked with 11.6 million viewers, delivered the largest audience of the bowl season thus far. The previous high was 9.6 million for the previous night’s Missouri-Ohio State Cotton Bowl. For the season, it was third among all college football games behind the Alabama-Georgia SEC Championship on CBS (17.52M) and Ohio State-Michigan on FOX (19.07M)."

Great point...if they turned it on at all or flipped thru a channel they are a viewer...sponsors still got screwed by opt outs...who could watch that fiasco for long...bet everyone wants opt out U in their conference now...can they go ahead and leave the ACC...maybe Misery valley wants them!

10.3 million was the average number of viewers at any point in the game, not the total number of people who turned it on or flipped through the channel.

What specifically did FSU (as in the school, administration, sports department) do to screw advertisers? The team on the field was basically second and third stringers because so many guys opted out, which is their right to do.

You are absolutely right. My generalization of the name FSU should have been about opt outs not the school itself.

Hopefully that game spurs some real change in this NIL / Transfer Portal driven

fiasco.

I still say, the NCAA brought all this on themselves when they abolished the one year waiting period for transfers to play. Reinstate that, and players will think long and hard before they jump into the Transfer Portal.

The other end of it should be even easier. If you sign a huge NIL deal, you are obligated to play in whatever games your school plays in, unless you opt out for the NFL. Period. That wouldn't have saved FSU, but it WOULD have made the game a little more competitive.

The ratings were great, so the NCAA did fine.

You can devise whatever rules you want to force players to dress..

This ain’t a computer game. You can’t force them to want to play. And if they don’t want to play it will always be a fiasco.

Only those with high character and dedication to team/team mates will perform to capabilities. Those only there for the money will always ease up if they think in their own selfish interest.

I have to agree with you.

This BS has gone on long enough. However, I doubt the year-long sit-out will ever be reinstated. I think some coaches are comfortable with "interfering" with other schools' rosters. Kiffin is one example.

The game was an embarrassment. The sport is the most disgusting it's been

You must not be that old, because it was still mostly segregated a little over 50 years ago.

Honestly, I can think of half a dozen women PE teachers from my school years who would have played much tougher than Saturday's version of the Noles.

Ratings were surprisingly good, not sure who the 10 mil were that watched that disaster.

The bowl selection committee is the real culprit that screwed a lot of teams, fans, and advertisers this year.
