I get it, this is a Clemson football message board. Everyone is talking about the phone call (I loved Dabo's response btw). I just wanted to add something new.
We had a fun conversation in class regarding the gender pay gap. Obviously young people are more likely to be on the left end of the political spectrum, especially young women. It was clear during the conversation that the most passionate female students were left leaning. Their answer to the gender pay gap was simple: sexism.
So of course I tried to get them to think deeper about the topic. You could see the lightbulbs coming on. It was pretty cool to witness. I would ask simple questions or make a point that forced them to actually think about. They always tried to revert back to sexism, but it became increasingly more difficult for them to do so.
Then, at the end, I gave them examples of women in their generation doing better than men. The statistics are actually alarming. Young men are in trouble. We are already starting to see young women earning more than young men in parts of the country. But, projections indicate that their generation will have twice as many women college graduates as men. 70% of high school valedictorians are women. Young girls are a full grade ahead of boys. In the other 40 states, they are half a grade ahead of the boys. Single women are more likely to own their own home than single men. Young women are more likely to have a stable job. They are more likely to pay off their student loans. They move out of their parent's home faster than men. 63% of women under 30 are married, while only 34% of men under 30 are married. Men are more likely to commit suicide and go to prison.
And I left them with this question at the end. If you are more educated and harder working than your male coworkers, are you going to continue arguing for equal pay? Their response was immediately "NO!" lol.

I don't know if that is true. Young boys are hardly listening to radical feminists.
Just based off my own anecdotal evidence, boys just don't try as hard in school as girls do. There's a lot of reasons for why that is, but the biggest factor is almost certainly parenting.

Interesting, I took a trip to Raleigh this weekend. In the airport, my observation was that there are a lot of wussy looking men. Not many of the rugged, manly types.
I think feminism has had a big impact on the younger male generations.
I do agree that in general, boys don't try as hard as girls in school.

It feels like young men don't get out as much, exercise as much, or try to stay in shape because of the modern distractions/conveniences at home. Video games, Tik Tok, YouTube, Twitch, Netflix, etc.
Working out is difficult and takes a lot of time. Playing Call of Duty with your friends is easy.

Observations with my kids & their friends- Girls in general are more dedicated & social than boys. Def not absolute but I saw more ability in girls to be good at sports and academics. (Disclaimer- I’m a girl dad)

As a man under 30 it’s true. Nobody knows the crap we have to listen to every single day. Between social media and the women we live and work around it’s awful. Dating is awful. luckily I hit a home run. (Diamond in the rough) Every guy I know closely under 30 has depression and have contemplated ending it all at least once. I know guys that are making good money, have degrees or working towards them currently, and are really respected that are still miserable on the inside. I’m sure I’ll get the “weak generation” reply or whatever but sadly we live in a world where men are berated and hated by almost everyone these days. I reach out occasionally to some guys after we talk if anything serious is going on just to make sure I don’t lose a good friend one night.

As a guy mid 30s I can honestly say a lot of that is dependent on where you grow up … bc iv seen both spectrums up close and personal and have very strong opinions on the mental health decline of this country and how I believe it’s targeted by a certain big money group (another convo for another time) but i commend you on checking in and would urge you to keep doing it if you feel it’s necessary! It changes a person more than you realize and not something you want to live with so be your brothers keeper and continue to be there whether you fully understand it or not !

That's not it.
Women no longer have to rely on a man to survive, like they did decades ago. The statistics show that women are starting to earn more than men, in the younger generations at least. So guys are now obligated to bring more to the table than "money." But what more do they provide instead? Not much, unfortunately. Guys under 30 don't really have their lives figured out. They aren't as serious as women. They are still very immature. So of course younger women gravitate towards older men.

Through the last 3000 years of human history most women have been treated as property and placed in arranged marriages with few rights in most cultures until recent times depending on country. Now they typically have the right to marry or not marry at their will. So be it if some choose to be gold diggers. I have taught my daughters that they need to be in relationships with men who show them respect, they have fun with and they share similar values.

Of course that is taught. It's explained how African war lords would kidnap and sell slaves to Europeans in exchange for manufactured goods, weapons included.
Then we teach that the uniqueness of the American system of slavery was that we racialized it. We turned slavery into a race-based system, while it had mostly existed as a means of paying off debt and/or being conquered by another group.

6 million alone ended up in Brazil and the reported high that ended up in the US is as low as 287,000-400,000? That number may have changed, but was based on shipping records from the Euro companies that supplied the rides.
The US as part of the Constitution agreed to end the African Slave trade ~1808 and began sending frigates along with GB to patrol the coast of Africa. Anyone ignoring the blockade and refusing to a search would be taken, boarded, sunk if needed.

Indentured servitude and slavery are not the same thing.
Indentured servants gained their freedom after ~7 years. Indentured servitude was not hereditary either.
Slaves never gained their freedom and it passed down to their children.

Women and children weren't asked what or how they felt when their fathers sold them into slavery in order to afford the price of their passage to the New World.
Africans sold their own people in perpetuity. They shipped them for a 1,000 years sub-Sahara and the lucky survivors were castrated and sold as Eunuchs. The practice of selling their own still exists today until death do them part? It's a commodity and act of ownership.
States that moved on from the practice had slaves finish their obligation unless manumission came first, but their children were free. Manumission carried to the children as well, it did not skip. There were 600,000 freedmen in the States in 1860, 60,000 in VA alone.
As far as "uniqueness", humanity in masse put natives/savages on a lower totem; cultures, societies, religions, varying ethnicity and race have all played their role in humanity subjugating or lessening others.
Nothing remotely unique about the separation of the races or status as has been evidenced across the globe.

and pathos, emotional refuse, get in the way of and cloud their judgement of history. That's where it gets sideways.
It's pretty amazing one of the richest nations in the world is ranked so relatively low. Much of it seems because of the misplacement in or lack of importance of education in today's society - so many other things are lauded and raised to the level of the golden calf.
Bringing it back to the board, college football was about an opportunity to get a priceless and irreplaceable education, but that has continually been devalued and lost on too many.

mid to late 20's. I got one guy that thinks we pay for his lunch break, comes in late, and 5 minutes to 5 is loafing about like he is waiting to leave. The women come in early and stay late depending on their workload, I dono even have to ask, they don't make excuses, and are more productive. They make more money here.

My fiancé and I work for the same private ambulance company as EMTs. I have been there for 9 years, she has been there for 6 years. I have received a pay raise every year because I demand one. She worked her first 2 years at the same hourly rate and was too "scared" to ask for a raise. I convinced her to do so and the company gave her two years worth of raises. Now she asks for one every year.
We were contributing to the gender pay gap. But it wasn't due to sexism. In this case, it was due to me demanding a raise while she refused to ask for one. I told this story to my students and made sure they knew that they had to advocate for themselves when they get a job. Hopefully they will.

I am not an expert in the area of gender pay gap. I never even studied that topic in any depth. I can speak from my own personal anecdotal experience, however.
My wife graduated first in her college class in 3 1/2 years with a double major in computer science and accounting. She was on a fast track to have a financially rewarding career.
But as soon as that first baby popped out, her entire life mission changed to becoming the best mother she could be. We had three kids, and she eventually dropped out of the workforce so she could spend her time raising the kids and being a part of their daily lives.
I have met enough mothers in my adult life to know that nearly every single mother puts a much higher focus on their children than they do their careers. I would argue that the same cannot be said about men. Men, generally speaking, tend to put their careers ahead of their family.
If there is a pay gap, that could explain part of it.

That is certainly one explanation.
In class, my students brought up that most CEOs are men. They argued it was due to sexism.
I asked them to think about what type of people become CEOs. I mentioned that these are hyper-focused individuals with extremely high work ethic. They work 100+ hours per week in a specialized field for more than a decade to climb the corporate ladder. It is a ruthless competition.
Now, men have the luxury of starting families much later than women. Men can wait until their 40s and 50s to have children. Women, typically, have to have their family life in order by their mid-30s. Men wanting to become CEOs aren't going to slow down. They are going to keep grinding for that position. But they don't have to take a break like women have to.
So it's not all about sexism. That's the lazy answer. There are other factors at play. I just want them to think critically about them.

My interpretation of this is not necessarily the gender gap issue, but one of using sexism as the reason. I read an article where a professor gave his students a topic to discuss. The caveat to the discussion was that they could not use any "-ist" or "-ism" in the discussion. Most drew a blank.
The tendency or indoctrination, if you will, is that any of these "-isms" is the sole cause of any or most gaps or otherwise unfairness. Sometimes it is. I've found most things aren't that simple.

The nuclear family is something that is often misunderstood because of sensationalist “news” broadcasts of late taking a term they don’t understand and holding it up as an all time American “value”. It isn’t, most families up til the 80’s or 90s weren’t nuclear families but rather joint families because it wasn’t as common to move away for life. After college or when you were ready to have kids most people came back to their home area where their support network lived (if they left at all). Now with it being so common/easy to pack up and move permanently a lot of families have taken on a nuclear structure of just parents/kids with grandparents/aunts/uncles visiting here or there instead of being involved regularly in the kids’ normal lives.
Some of my best memories growing up were the big family get togethers we had on a regular basis with the whole family and always being close enough to go support cousins’ sports games or whatever. And as any of you with kids will understand having supportive grandparents close by with little ones cannot be underappreciated!

All the organizations that claim there is one are merely taking the jobs that are predominantly done by women, like cleaning hotel rooms, and averaging pay for women versus men. They are not comparing pay for like jobs ...... like professional jobs such as engineers.

This is a false, lazy claim on par with OPs point about “sexism” being blamed the primary cause. Here’s a good article outlining that when leveled for education, experience and job type there’s still a gap. In some cases it can be as small as 5% but normally it’s larger. And if you don’t think 5% isn’t a big deal think about how you’d like it if your boss came in and told you you’re getting a 5% pay cut today. This isn’t about men getting less or missing out, it’s about everyone getting paid similarly for the work they do

Interesting.
We've been trending this way for years. Very scary.
My wife has an executive level hospital administration job in SC. She's in her 40's.
She's smart, and pretty. She's at the top of every employer's "promote-list".
She'd also be the the first one to admit that its much easier for a female to get promoted to a managerial level, or executive job in her industry than a male. Her company employs north of 35k employees, so she sees their hiring practices up close and personal.
She said if she was a male she'd likely never have been hired into her current position. Nobody wants to hire men unless they "have to" (and least of all white-men). Quotas, and the potential for sexual harassment lawsuits are the driving force. She said hiring men is a liability, and corporate is running scared, so hiring females is easier as it provides everyone cover in the event things don't work out.
That's really all you need to know about actual "discrimination" that's likely happening at every large employer in the country right now. Ladies, cry me a river.

Women do better in academics now only because the game has been rigged in their favor. The academic systems that produced men who invented airplanes and atom bombs and computers and space travel and nuclear bombs are long gone. Women could not and did not excel in those systems because they rewarded actual intelligence instead of things like properly formatting a paper or working really hard and completing lots of assignments.
Any academic system that women excel at is going to produce a severely inferior product. Women are for the kitchen and bedroom and that's it.

You could realize that most women lacked the access to education that men have had for most of modern history. Women have only been admitted to Clemson since 1955 for example.
