Never mind that they lost three ACC games and didn’t even play for the conference title, let alone the national title.
They remind me of Clemson in 2004.
When we came off a 9-win season in 2003 with Charlie Whitehurst returning at QB.
All signs pointed to a banner season!
We then went 6-5 … with no bowl due to brawl with SCAR.

USC has talent but they can't seem to beat everyone in their conference. They always have a let down game or two somewhere along the way which leads me to believe they won't make the playoffs this year. They have to go to ND and play Utah in October, and those will be no cake walk, and at Oregon in November.

But, I think there are way too many variables and unknowns in August for any team. I would look at any group of 4 teams and be surprised if more than 2 made the finals.
Right now, I think FSU is the beneficiary of being overrated, slightly, while Clemson is being underrated, slightly.
If I were forced to pick 4 teams right now, I'd pick USC, Ohio State, Clemson and GA. And, if you set the over/under for how many teams I have right at 1.5 I'd take the under.

Kelly is not a bad coach. LSU takes down FSU and Bama. Loses or wins close vs. UGA in SEC championship and both teams possibly go. USC or Utah is also a good choice if they can win out.

I will buy FSU when I see it. Who did they beat last year? LSU by one, first game of the the year with a new coach and an. Then who? Clemson could have easily blown them out last year, but Dabo took his foot off the gas per usual. I just want to see FSU do it before we proclaim them back.

any one of your four is definitively out of it. I expect FSU to be the shakiest of that groop, followed by the Real USC. Georgia and the Bucknuts are not really going out on much of a limb. Georgia's schedule is RIDICULOUSLY easy. It doesn't even look like an SEC schedule. Probably the only game that will be competitive at all is the Rocky Top Nut Lickers. And, who knows, they may prove to be a flash in the pan as well.
C'mon, Dawgs. UT Martin, Ball State, and UAB for three of your first four games? All AT HOME? If I were a Georgia season ticket holder, I would be in revolt over that schedule. I'm paying good money to see high school scrimmages? Travesty is what it is.
The Bucknuts at least play a few teams with a pulse. Notre Dame, Penn State, Wisconsin are usually good for a few yucks. And, Khaki Pants may have his guys ready again at the end of the season. So, the Tree Turds don't exactly get a walkover like Georgia does.
As for the Real USC, I see their game with Stanford is called "The Zero Waste" game. Talk about your misnomers, that game sounds like a TOTAL waste to me.  The Trojan-Enz have several potential stumbling blocks on their schedule, and I am not sold on Lincoln Riley's ability to pull them out of their decades long doldrums just yet.
I saved the Criminoles for last. SO much hype over just one respectable season. In reality, their playoff dreams could be crushed after just four games this coming season, if the Bayou Bengals and the Clemson Tigers play as advertised. With those two losses, even if they stumble nowhere else, they stil have what I expect to be a much improved Florida squad waiting for them in a rivalry game the last week of the regular season. I guess all that is my way of saying, I don't buy the hype on the Noles. I think the only way they make the Playoffs is if they buy a ticket.

I like your 4 because I want FSU to continue to get high marks. I would have preferred that you chose Notre Dame because we face them this year. In reality, preseason predictions mean nothing. I like Clemson's chances. If we go undefeated, we will be in. If we lose 1 game, we will probably get in, and our chances are better if our opposition is highly regarded.

I'm going with Alabama, Clemson, OSU and possibly USC - if USC can figure out how to play defense.
I believe both Alabama and OSU play with chips on their shoulder this year and both have mega talented rosters. Just like USC, if OSU can ever learn to play defense, they could win the whole thing and keep in mind, they could have won it last year after losing 42-41 to Georgia in the Playoffs when they missed that final FG.
But my pick to win it all - Clemson. Hey, I can dream, right ?
