Or team... Just go to bed and wake up and it's different. Only Coach Dabo remains the same. Sucks, but this is worse than getting attached to the Braves or the NFL... pull for Furman if u need familiarity. Go Tigers or whatever u become are tomorrow. Silly I know

This has been trending in college sports for some time. The pros? For decades.

I was thinking this a few days ago. For several yrs now I have had to look at basketball roster at start of season just to learn players. It sux and its only 12-14players with a few returns, can't wait until it's 85 players and 30+ new players every year.

I think you are right about some money flowing to smaller schools. Big D1 athletics don’t have the same family feel anymore. Business is business but it’s too big to have the right energy around it. Money is great but eventually too much of it tends to ruin things. Eye of the needle

Maybe Program sales can go to NIL. You're going to need one.

the big wigs can save it. I give two years of this and you will see stadium at 3/4 capacity at best. Nobody will care about recruiting, when they are likely to transfer on a whim, or for more money. And recruiting won't matter because portal players will be coming and going.
I'm curious if Dabo is really changing his portal policy, or if it is just wishful rumor. I don't see how he can replace the transferring players with true freshman. Just the numbers alone will not work out. I am so glad we won the national championships before all of this nonsense started.
1. The SEC and BIG have been so vocal and determined to drill into everyone that they are the best conference. Not just to say they are the best, but to actually put down other leagues to the point that nobody cares about the other leagues. Now we have two conferences and the BIG and SEC are the kings of nothing. And ESPN, rather than try to build a good rivalry between their two properties of ACC and SEC, just chimed in on putting down the league, which is 10-7 vs the BIG and SEC combined this year.
2. Pay players yes, it was about time, but millions? And just buying players off of other teams? Is this roller derby now? Who cares anymore.
3. Transfer portal is out of control. I actually get pleasure when I hear of players getting stuck there without a scholarship offer.
4. So players take a scholarship for the semester, but don't have to finish playing the semester.
5. It is one thing to transfer because of lack of playing time, or to turn pro early, but to just take the best offer at another school and split?
6. The bottom line is all of this is made possible by the fans and the fans are getting fed up with it all. I have visited many message boards and they are sounding the same. Many people ready to find another hobby. The main thing they are taling about is just not caring as much any longer.

Well said.
It is an absolute certainty that people will find better things to do, and spend their $$$ other stuff. CFB will look like NASCAR in a few years.
When the NFL went the free-ageny rout in the 90's I quit caring. I used to watch every televised game on Sundays and MNF games religiously. I maybe watch maybe a total of 30 minutes of NFL per season now. I can't tell you who won last year's Superbowl, but I could tell you the entire Dallas Cowboys starting roster in 1992.
When the NBA started promoting playground-ball chest thumping prima donnas 35 years ago I quit caring. I used to watch every single Celtics game and was a big NBA fan.
When NASCAR went the restricter-plate, and the corporate image route in the early 2000's I quit caring. I used to watch every televised race, and occasionally went in person.
CFB since COVID hasn't been the same. I've quit caring as much, and soon won't care at all. Besides the mandatory BLM butt-kissing, the advent of the Transfer Portal, and NIL, greed, and conference expansion has killed my appetite. The portal and NIL are disasters. It's been 3 years years since I've been to a game. For the first time in my life I actually missed watching Clemson Football games over the last 2 seasons because "I was busy". I've quit caring, and in a couple of years I probably won't watch at all, like the NFL. As a former season ticket holder and alum we used to go to every game, then scaled back to 2-3 per season, then 1, but since COVID we've attended 0 regular seasons games. I have missed family weddings for Clemson games, but that is in the past. Those days are long gone.
I officially don't watch any sports on TV, or in person anymore, with the exception of the occasional CFB game, and that is waning. It's turning into a pro sports league and its lost its charm. Rating will continue to dry up as CFB loses it's fan base.

Over time the NFL turned me off to where I only watch parts of one or two games a week. College football is now doing the same. I watched the least amount of college football this year than I have in the past 20 years and I’ll watch even less next year.
