With the passage of 3-5 years, we should know if the teams using the portal extensively is good, bad or doesn't matter. Once the verdict is in, it is either going to put a damper on transfers and teams using the poral or it is going to open the floodgates for players and teams to use the portal.

I honestly would not bet either way, currently.

Those teams using the portal have bet on it improving their team

How would you place your bet?

it's not the portal itself, its the portal combined with NIl combined with tampering... each of the fist two in and by themselves are not an issue... when you add the 3d it's toxic...

Wonder how many USC (Cali no SC) deep pocket boosters are wondering what they are paying for?

as opposed to paid mercenaries who are just about ME. That is exactly what Dabo and Clemson continue to try to do, despite all the hand wringing and postulating saying we should do otherwise.

This coming season will be a real referendum on our policy, as the NIL/Transfer Portal afterburners are pretty well engaged everywhere else by now. I believe the results will be in our favor, as we bounce back, once again make the Playoffs, AND make some noise once we get there.

agreed, so many people are quick to think that the portal is the answer when that has not been proven yet and has not shown a pattern of becoming the answer.

how many TP guys FSU is getting from Bama etc. they’ve gotten like 15 guys but they have lost like 27 to the portal. This doesn’t include the guys who’s eligibility expired or left early for the draft. Their model is not going to win jack #### if they keep this approach. 50% roster turnover year over year. The funny thing is Norvell stated less than 2 years ago that he wanted to move to HS recruiting and TP to fill a few holes - prettty much the Bama, UGA approach and where I think Clemson will be in another year or two as the 6yr impact moves into the rearview mirror. He felt that was the best long term approach to build a program. He viewed TP as a short term solution to his depleted roster and needed overhaul to become relevant. He’s now got himself into what looks like a vicious cycle. He won’t last with this approach. There will be 0 loyalty in that program and any cracks will break open quickly and it’s going to be funny to watch.
