Watch out Will, the ACC officials will be out to get you for any little thing they can. Move your eyes and you will get flagged for a false start or motion. Just be prepared.

That was a dirty, head-hunting play by the GT linebacker. The fact it was not even reviewed was a travesty! Those are the kinds of hits the league has sought to ban from the game; I hope they review that play this week and dish out a suspension to that jerk, and reprimand the referee/review teams as well. Their LB knew exactly what he was doing, and who he was targeting! Disgusting! I get Shipley’s frustration!

Should have been reviewed but the LB was being pushed. I don't think for a moment it was intentional.
Also, RB targeting is different. LB had no way of knowing that Shipley wasn't upright. Yes, when you slow it down, it looks bad. Real speed, not so much. Helmet to Helmet can occur and it not be targeting.
Still, flag should have been thrown and reviewed.
As for what else he said when told mafah was starting... I lost some respect for him. Sorry, jmho.

It's a rule.
Intent doesn't come into it.
It was obvious live and should have been called live.
Shouldn't have required a review, but the booth should have buzzed down immediately.

An article on another Clemson media site. He was telling the reporter that cj spiller called he and Phil into his office and he was told mafah was starting. He then went on to say that he had started every game since freshman nc st game and how he had to fight his inner demons to not be upset, even though he was upset about it. As stated above, jmho, the whole not starting explanation thing should never have been discussed publicly. It's also jmo that he should have sat after his tantrum he threw to cade and cj. He's a good kid that imo has some growing up to do.

He wasn't leading with the crown of his helmet. He was going for his legs to make a legitimate tackle. At the split second, and I mean less than a half second, Shipley went down and lowered his head. And yes, the two helmets collided. My response was to the original post that implies it was an intentional pre-planned hit on Shipley. All I said is it wasn't. I've looked at it at least 100 times. In real speed and slow mo, as well as frame by frame.
And yes, the rule does state if a player launches or crouching in order to gain excessive force is considered targeting. I also stated that a review should have been initiated, no dispute. However, I'm not convinced targeting would have been upheld.
It's football and an unfortunate incident. Just a bang bang play. 1/2 second earlier, he tackles Shipley in the side. A half second later, he misses Shipley all together. Especially since Shipley lowered his head.

The flag should always get thrown when an uncertain targeting event takes place.
After review, the flag can be picked up.
If no flag is thrown, then there is no review, thus room for error that negatively impacts player safety.

The booth can initiate a targeting review even if the field refs don't flag it.

Happens all the time. I'm shocked that the booth refs didn't even look at it. Seemed like textbook targeting to me. I don't think it was intentional but that's not relevant to the rule.

It was indeed a travesty - how many players have we seen tossed for MUCH LESS obvious calls. Those REFS should all be suspended!

These ACC refs this year have been horrific all around. It's not just that play, look all around the league, they are blowing calls,even reviews, and it's an embarrassment on both the integrity of the league and the health of these players. An even worse one was the no call safety in the FSU game this week and they even reviewed that play!
Eric McLain also has called it out on both his podcast and on the ACC Network MULTIPLE TIMES since the start of the season.

I don’t blame Shipley at all. The refs totally missed the call and that is a big gaffe on their part. I think that crew needs to be suspended for the rest of the college football season.

One in the 11-11-23 GA Tech game, and another one (WHICH KNOCKED HIM UNCONSCIOUS) in the 10-28-23 NC State game. UNDEFENDABLE how the ACC Ref guys up in the booth did nothing about these (either one), even if the on-field refs missed them – they see the same TV replays that we do.

ignored again. I was at the game Saturday, so I had no idea it happened until I watched the replay Sunday night. I was livid. The TV announcers were adamite that it was targeting, and they were correct. I am sure where this intentional BS is coming from. The majority of fouls in basketball and football are not intentional. They are still fouls. Who gives a rat's butt if had happen a split second earlier or a split second later?? What the heck does that have to do with anything?? It happened when it did to a player coming off of concussion protocol. SMHH.

There's NO EXCUSE for the ACC to not take some formal action in regards to this matter!
If they don't make serious inquiries and reviews of these blatant failures by their referees on-field AND in the booth to immediately address and correct the apparent dismissal of procedures designed to protect players from serious and possibly life-threatening injuries, someone should be speaking with LEGAL COUNSEL about sueing the ACC for NEGLIGENCE & WILLFUL ENDANGERMENT.
