You obviously never watched the sun come up over the Blue Ridge Mountains from your dorm window in Clemson, South Carolina in the fall.

feel like I broke even for being stuck in old F4 Johnstone for all four years. But, it certainly did make it more bearable.

All I needed was for a Prof to tell me that lecture

attendance was optional, as long as we showed up for the tests and exams, and they never saw me again. Or at least, not when I could set up a network to borrow class notes from.
That's probably the genesis of my version of the "wake up in a cold sweat" nightmare. Exam week looms, and I suddenly realize I signed up for a class that I didn't attend, AT ALL, the whole semester. But, the final exam counts as 60% of the grade, so if I can perfecto the exam, I can scrape by with a D. I spend a frantic couple of days tracking down people who attended the class, borrowing a textbook, and trying to cram a semester of learning into two days. I always woke up in a cold sweat at various points before the grades were posted.

If you play the Ocean Course, bring a lot of balls.

because three of the holes were closed for course maintenance. What was left was more than enough to make me never want to tackle it again. All I really remember is WIND, WIND, and MORE WIND. Of course, I expected that going in, but, there is wind, and then there is WIND.
I used to be a high ball hitter, so wind would cause me issues most anywhere. Probably the windiest course that I played more than once has changed names so many times, I don't know what it is called now, since I have no game and do not travel in a group to play out of town anymore. It used to be Oristo, then Fairfield Ocean Ridge at one point. It is on Edisto Island?
I also remember getting humbled by the Fort Gordon, Georgia course, Gordon Lakes, one day when the wind was really howling. By humbled, I mean that, as an 8-10 handicap back then, I was used to shooting high 70s to low 80s rounds. In a big wind, I don't ever recall even breaking 80. I think a 91 that day at Gordon Lakes was as close as I got in a 15+ mph wind. I was always a "Happy Hooker", and never had much ability to "hold" the ball against the side wind, or hit it low into the wind.
Nowadays, I am just grateful if I can get out and swing it for 18 holes, regardless of score. It hasn't been possible for about two months now. But, Hope Springs Eternal. Maybe today is the day the Chiropractor can make this thing get realigned to the point I can stand it again.

The course on Edisto

Is now called The Plantation Course at Edisto. Pretty short course but the wind plays havoc. Played it a couple of times last year.

law's new home in Columbia yesterday....Every time they had a beautiful view of a golfer walking past one of those ponds, I could only think that I would like to be right beside the pro....with one of my St. Croix rods and a topwater bait tied on. That would be perfect. The announcers would be like, "What the beck is his caddie doing......IS HE FISHING?!!!!!"...I'd be like,"Yep".
