223 - Known for Rushing, Rodney Blount had 223 Receiving Yards And a Legacy

Rodney Blount (1989-1993) was a powerful RB for Clemson – amassing 2,064 yards on 474 carries (4.4 average). He also gained another 223 yards on 33 receptions (6.8 average).

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/clemson/receiving.html

But his legacy doesn’t stop at being a bad man on the football field. Rodney Blount has gone on to become a great man at building up subsequent generations as well.

From Jacksonville.com:

The football field was swarming with dragonflies and dry enough to send up clouds of dirt when feet hit the ground. It was covered with exercise equipment - cones, ladders, bars and ropes that made you tired just looking at them.

Almost 100 youngsters gathered Saturday morning on the field, at the Johnnie W. Walker Park in Grand Park, to endure three hours of athletic drills: sprinting, leaping, skipping, hopping, tackling, throwing and lots of pushups.

They seemed to have fun, but that wasn't the point. A local nonprofit, City Streets 2 Student Athletes, hopes the exercises will help build character among the youngsters, put them on the path to college, and keep them away from the vortex of crime and drug use that has blighted some local neighborhoods.

"I've seen what the pigskin can do for you," said Rodney Blunt, a former running back at Clemson University who founded City Streets in 2009. "That's my passion: to show these kids there's an avenue out there for them."

City Streets began its exercise program in Miami in 2009, and expanded to Jacksonville about four years ago, Blunt said. Today, it operates about one exercise program a month, traveling around Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. It also offers tutoring, mentoring and college visits.

After almost three hours of exercises, the athletes took a knee in the middle of the field while their parents stood behind them. Blunt led them in a recitation of the City Streets pledge to stay away from drugs, urging them to shout it loud enough to be heard in the Jaguars stadium.

He gave a short speech: If you want to succeed, he said, you have to work hard in school and stay away from drugs.

Amen, Mr. Blount! A true Clemson man indeed!!!

And an inspiration to many!

South Carolina Highway 223 is a 6.7 mile state highway that runs from SC 9 & 901 north of Richburg to U.S. 21 in the community of Landsford and Landsford Canal State Park.

The Clemson Experimental Forest that Issaqueena is part of is a 17,500 acre forest surrounding Clemson U. as sort of an outdoor lab. It includes the Issaqueena Lake, Todd's Creek, and Keowee Heights areas north of the the university and the Fant's Grove area to the south. There are numerous hiking trails and waterfalls, as well as a Forest Fest in Aprils if that still goes on. Probably no one on Tnet knows more about the experimental forest than @FORESTTIGER

Does Clemson University own all of the land that's shaded? I've always wondered how much land Clemson owned.

It says it is their experimental forest so I think so. And that doesn't include any of the campus land, and maybe none of the agricultural areas off campus.

and a total of over 27,000 acres of land were acquired from the federal government in 1934. The university owns over 33,000 acres of land.

It feels kind of funny having only a handful of days left and knowing that I'll be done working forever. I don't think it's going to really hit until I've been retired for a week or 2. I'll let you know how it feels after it sets in.
