I have a friend who usually has a pretty good read on things who tells me this is what he is hearing. He also thinks it's been a strange year for Ship—yelling at refs and Spiller, etc.

I wouldn’t be surprised. He was honored with the seniors but I don’t think he’ll be a running back in the nfl. He may go play 1 more year with another team. Glad we had him.

Does it really matter, but he best ask all those guys that has went through the portal how it didn't help their career, it actually hurt in most cases, and with what would be left in that stable if he did leave, it wouldn't hurt Clemson NONE!!!

He's a good back. Overall, I like Mafa better, but I think it's close. You need at least two good backs in this game. With Ship we have two.
It would be bad to lose a talent like him. He just needs to stop the freaking fumbles inside the 10-yard line, good God!

Most folks enter the portal because they are upset with lack of PT at there current school. They soon find out, in most cases, that there is a reason they weren't getting PT.
I have no idea if Ship is going to enter the portal. I hope he doesn't. But, if he does, he will be as highly recruited as he was coming out of HS. He has demonstrated he can play at the elite level. He has also demonstrated that he will grind and work, not be a prima donna.
If he enters the portal, he will make whichever teams picks him up a better team.

No doubt that he will make any team that he goes to better, but there is also the risk of resentment when a portal guy comes in and takes over the spot that another player has had for one or more seasons before their position had been intruded on....

The coach has to set a culture than accepts transfers. And, the coach has to evaluate whether or not the guy will come in and fit into the culture and not be a distraction.
Norvell has, somehow, been very successful in doing that. When a portal guy comes for a visit he spends a lot of time with the current players, just like HS recruits do. Coaches talk to the players and get their feedback.
No need for me to go into detail about the specifics, but recruiting portal kids is similar in many respects to recruiting HS kids. It also has difference, for sure.
If Shipley did enter the portal and transfer, he will not be a distraction, but will be an asset.

Because I can definitely see it. Not even because he may be disgruntled but more so for opportunities to improve his draft stock.
Selfishly, I'd love to have him and Mafah back if we could get more of what we saw yesterday with Ship making an impact as an APB and Mafah as the bruiser.

If he cant be a pro player, maybe he would go to the highest bidder and make some money his last year….. like Hartman did at ND to play one more year… not saying Hartman doesn’t have a chance at pro, but I read that he was paid close to 2M to play at ND…. If thats true, not a bad 1 year gig….
Maybe SHip would try and maximize earning his last year over anything else….. If he wants a chance at a playoff, Clemson had as good a chance as others next year IMO

The reply was what my guy told me verbatim…. He ain’t considering a transfer. He would make more in NIL next year vs the NFL, he would be a 5-6th round pick. But the kid loves betting on himself so he might go. Dabo is giving him the facts, if he leaves it’s 100% him betting on himself, meaning he will make a roster and get to his second contract faster.

I'm thinking he is leaving. His yelling at coaches and players cost him some likeability with some of the fans. Mafah coming on strong also took some of the fans. I think he knows these things and will want to move on to another school and cash in on some higher NIL money. Don't think he is NFL material but these are just my opinions.

I think he's prob a little butthurt people wanted him replaced. I think he's a little narcissistic, but those great players are built in such a way.
All I can say is that Clemson nation should be grateful for what Ship brought them to Tiger town; heart, endless effort, wins, joy, love, pride, and above all, he did it wearing the paw.
I think people have quickly forgotten how to appreciate a good thing around here because we are spoiled. That's just my opinion.

If he read Tigernet anyone would be butthurt. I’ve never understood calling him out or saying negative things about him. Was Mafah better? Perhaps but we need 2 good backs and what they can bring to the table. Running 1 off was kinda dumb and we the fans contributed to this if it in fact happens

That rumor is everywhere. It makes NO sense. He’s not by my eyes an NFL RB, he’s a good college RB already at one of the nation’s premiere programs, so what in Gods name would make him want to transfer? The offense is already without playmakers, and he’s one of the only ones. He’s started since he was a freshman. What am I missing here?

Mafah simply passed Ship. Mafah was the weaker back as a freshman and they were equal last year. Mafah is now more consistent, calmer on the field and sidelines and has more upside. Ship is just a ball of rage that is awesome when it's on, but easily run off track.
When you have 2 starting backs, you have no starting back. And our offense has always taken time for backs to warm up in a game. Ultimately we'd be better off with Mafah getting 70% of the carries and the younger backs spelling him.

don't know about. He's a starter and feature back at Clemson for God's sake where he gets all-conference consideration and plenty of recognition. Transferring to another school sure won't help his chances with the NFL in that regard. Sure, he may be unhappy here for some reason, but I don't think we can assume a couple of outbursts are any indication of it. It may just be that he's a super intense, hot-headed player.
I think it's almost a certainty that he is putting out feelers to the NFL to gauge interest. I don't know what kind of future he has at the next level, but I'm not sure staying another year at Clemson helps his chances either. I'm just guessing, but I think that's most likely what's on his mind, and why he ran down the hill, just in case.

Dabo was asked about Shipley leaving during his press conference after the North Carolina game. He made it sound like if he left, he would only leave for the NFL. I think if he left and went to the transfer portal, it would be a huge surprise to Dabo.
