How can Clemson football compete in the real world.

Disclaimer: I don't like the direction college football is heading. In my ideal world college football would be a means whereby students could use football to earn a college diploma. But, that ain't the world we live in and it ain't never gonna be the world we live in. Academics are an inconvenience or at best an option, but certainly not a priority.

So, with that said, somebody tell me a realistic scenario whereby Clemson (or FSU or any other university) compete with the SEC or B1G in the next 5 years unless Clemson is in one of those two conferences. Teams in those two conferences will be earning 50+ million dollars per year more than any team not in those two conferences. With that big a financial deficit how can Clemson compete?

My conclusion: Neff and company aren't stupid. They recognize reality. And, they are working every bit as hard as FSU (just in a different manner) to get into one of those two conferences.

I think the difference will be 100 million or more. Each SEC/BIG school will get appx. 25 million just from the 16 team CFP if the SEC/BIG get 58.1% of the 1.1 billion. That does not include the add. amt the teams in the 16 get at each stage of the playoff.

Huge discrepancy.

Hate the SEC, Like the SEC, it doesn't matter anymore

It's all about that $$$$. We are getting left in the dust in the ACC. That extra money allows the athletic department to depend less on IPTAY. IPTAY can fund more NIL. More money allows for upgrades that not only benefit the athletes from football all the way to women's field hokey. More money trickles down to improving campus life for your average student (eventually).

I'm not really sure what people mean when they say schools are working hard to get into the Big Ten or SEC. Literally the only way to get in is if you are invited. It's not like you are going to be able convince them with some novel argument. They already know all the pros and cons.

The SEC and BIG are going to expand soon. They need to have the addl. teams in conference or committed before they sign new tv contract soon. If you are still stuck in a conference with no way out, you will not be invited. So, you need to have a way out. The SEC and BIG have through back channels of people not directly connected to them make the offer to join.

And what reason would a Conference have to not want Clemson to join, unless it's only because they are scared of getting their ### whooped, repeatedly??

ESPN, and more recently FOX Sports, are killing college football. Whether Clemson and FSU make the Super Conference or not is unfortunately not going to change that fact.

ESPN and FOX are driving this car. They intend to lock in the SEC and BIG with all the teams worth watching so as to keep any upstart streaming services from getting a piece of the action.

It's all about the money. No one involved in all of this has discussed what is best for the athletes and fans. We fans don't matter. They know we will still watch and have no other choice.

I won't watch a second of Big Ten and SEC if they form their own League and Clemson isn't a part of it. May only watch Clemson games if they are in it. Nothing about it appeals to me. It's just NFL Lite on Saturdays.

Conferences as they exist now wont matter when football

eventually breaks away into the Top 64 league. Do you really think Vandy, Purdue, Rutgers, Northwestern, etc will be part of that just because they are currently tagging along in those two leagues. Chickens may better be worried. All other sports can remain in conferences as currently arranged.

KB, you might consider looking at how much money schools have before worrying about them. Vandy, for example, has almost $11 million in endowment and Clemson only has almost $1 million and I expect Northwestern has more than Vandy.

Clemson will never have the money of some of these large schools...we have opted for quality not quantity and the diploma mill scenario...but aside..for 60+ years few schools have had the resources of UT or TAMU and it still mattered little...in the modern Era aggies O natties ant UT 4 or maybe 5 and none recently...not talking about chicken crap 50M...more than that...aggies bought a SWC championship and a Co u ple of big 12 ...maybe in this new enlightened age of paying h s kids and making them free agents from birth, that will all change...the NCAA always was a toothless lion!

I've thought a lot about the possibility of being left out. To me if you're going to take the kind of control of the product that SEC and BIG are you owe the public to include the best brands even if that means cutting loose some of your members. Superior brands shouldn't be left to wither on the vine while Vandy and Northwestern spend that money.

You do understand that as a state supported school, none of our tax payer dollars go to pay athletes. The gnashing of teeth over the difference between what ACC and SEC schools make is much ado about nothing. Our athletic department is doing just fine, look at the salaries the coach are paid and all the new facilities on campus, and we either have a goldmine on the property or the money from the ACC and ticket sales is enough to do what we need to do.

while we run the lowly cadet freshmen students down to jimmy HowardsTap Room for cold pitchers of beer and of course pizza. LOL~

Clemson could wait until FSU has their time in the courts and if it doesn't turn out the way that FSU needs for it to turn out, Clemson can follow a suit behind FSU with it's own law suit and lean from whatever mistakes that FSU made in the court and maybe win a we can live with case, and that would make it easier for FSU to file suit again under the same merits that made things easier for Clemson. I hate class action lawsuits bc nobody gets a chance to learn what could help them out in a suit of their own...
