They’re hoping to sell the fan base on one of their own alums after getting getting rebuffed by their first few unreasonable choices. UK still thinks they’re a top 5 job, they’re not.

Not sure how Kentucky would not be considered a top job? They have the money and bball is king in Kentucky with a rabid fan base.
The unrealistic expectations imo would be hard to overcome year in and year out but they recruit well and would not have thought that would have been a difficult job to fill. Could be some issues in the administration that those in the know did not want to be involved with.
Point being I was just curious as to what makes you think that program has lost it’s luster.

Tied for first all-time for most tourney wins and second all time in National Championships. They’ve been to 4 Final Fours under Calipari, which is tied for 13th on the all-time list (he’d be tied for 6th if not for vacated appearances). They’ve signed 11 five star players in the last 5 classes, second only to Duke. And they’re a basketball first school in a mega conference that will afford them dramatic financial advantage over nearly every other all-time basketball program in the coming years. That anyone would even suggest they aren’t a top 5 program is a reflection on how little Calipari has done with the resources at his disposal.

I asked a serious question in nctigs other thread. Why didn't they come after Brad. Pope was their 10th choice. Well, not sure it was 10 but it was at least a half dozen. So why wouldn't they come after him with all the praise every acc coach and pundits heaped on him over what a great coach he is.

Was it really a serious question if you asked a group of people who have no way of knowing the answer?
It would appear they targeted three elite coaches who all turned them down. Then with their ego bruised, they went with one of their own. Since the guy was a former player, the fan base will accept him even though his resume is not particularly impressive. Guessing he will not have very long to prove himself.
There are plenty of really good coaches, like CBB, who were not considered. They apparently wanted a super elite coach and when none were interested went with an alumni hire.
