That was back when there were only 32 teams.

No, it was 48 teams. The higher seeds got a buy. Clemson had to beat Utah State in the first round game then play #3 BYU. See link:

Williams, who the heck was Bill Williams? Then I chuckled at my own self. BILLY Williams, he of the cringeworthy "You Know" interviews, and the sweet jump shot. He was the perfect complement to Larry Nance, who is still, after all these years, probably my favorite offensive Tiger basketball player.

Larry Nance could ALMOST do it all. The "almost" has to be included because he, like most of his Tiger brethren of the time, was not very good at those pesky "free throw" thingys. For his career at Clemson, he was 62.8% from the "charity" stripe. As the old commercial said, "Not too goooood."

:)

Larry Nance came from small DcDuffie High in Anderson and was 6'6" when he signed with Clemson. Most thought that he was a wasted scholarship. He grew about 4" in the next couple of years, developed his game, and was a great player.

I agree with Nance. I had a class with him too. Loved talking cars.
