I'm sure he has the smarts to do the job well. As long as he gets results, I don't care if he is animated or catatonic on the sideline. If his players are motivated and execute well, then I don't see a problem. Maybe last year's issues with Bresee and especially Murphy's effort level are still on people's minds. We will soon see.

And lets see his defense stands up and ROAR with the loudest when it's time to put your hands in the dirt and get of the ball simultaneously with the offense that his defense is trying to stop dead in their tracks. Just show us that he can do it the way that it was done a decade before he was the DC. And personally, I ready don't care how he does it, or what he looks like doing it as long as he can get the job done, and if he can't, Dabo should search and find someone who can, and tell Goodwin that his services is no longer needed!!!! I do hope that he can make the best out of the opportunity that no one else in college FB would have handed him the way that Dabo put that high profile job in his hands. I do mean that nobody would have given him the chance to succeed or fail with that job with as little experience as he had the way that Dabo did!!! There are quite a few DC's out there that would have taken that job and done great with the talent that was left behind by BV....

Well, Pork Chop.......you better change something cause Clemson people are not gonna put up with soft defenses who play off with no pressure. Especially a defense that gives up 31 to the Coots and a plethora of passing TD's by the Garter Snake who only shows up between laser skin treatment appointments, then turns around and gets hammered by a bunch of Moonshiners who didn't even have their starting QB. Keep that up and you'll be at Georgia in the film room helping Streeter!

I was wes Goodwins biggest fan last year up to the the wake forest game. If he does not deliver this year then he will be finding a new job as a used car salesman. There is no way in hell with all the talent on defense this year that we should not at least be in the top-15 of total defense. No way in hell. Pork chop better step his game up!!!!

You be who you are but just remember that Clemson defense "is who it is" too. If you and the D can't get on the same page, then you'll be shown the door. I have dismissed several employees over the years because they were a bad fit for my organization and the same may prove true with Wes. We'll see.

For me, it is all about how his players respond to his coaching and how well he responds to in game situations and adjustments. If he markedly improves and gets results then all of the other stuff is superfluous noise.

I know we have some folks mixed on this dude but I'm still buying he is going to work out fine.
Players love him and clearly respect him. Of course, I wanna see the vaulted defense like anyone else but they definitely did enough last year to give us a shot to win every game which is exactly what BV did before (not saying in the same way we were accustomed to but in the grand scheme of things).
Of course, if the defense comes out flat all year then yeah I'm gonna be calling for a change too but my gut is that he's gonna have us working fine, especially if the offense pulls their weight more often.
Excited for Monday to find out!

This is a weird article. He’s weird. He was given the title of DC at a top 5 program in the nation and has never even been a position coach. I’ve yet to read anyone that can explain the reason why he was handed Clemson’s DC job. Nobody knows. Yet some people on here have him as their profile pic. Lmao. Please, I’m begging someone, tell me why he is Dabo’s DC?? He should have went with Skeeter IMO.

I always heard he was much of the brains behind our schemes with BV. I was also told if we didn’t offer, there were many other programs waiting to offer him DC position. I am cautiously optimistic.

Wes had multiple future first round NFL draft picks on his defense last year, and we were not that great.
"It was his first year" and "he's still learning how to be a coordinator" were frequent excuses given last year, and I'm sure some of you have more ready for this year if needed.
Hopefully they won't be needed, but given our talent level and our relatively easy schedule, we should be a top 10 defense.

3rd best team in ACC regular season with 2 NBA caliber talents starting and can’t beat Morehead State at home. But Wes Goodwin is the problem on the Clemson campus.

Just want to see more fire, from him that translates to our players. BV needed a pull back guy because of his fire and energy. If we start out slow on D - maybe we get a “push out guy” for him ?

I don't want Wes to be Brent, but the results last season were way below expectations considering the experience and talent of our D. It appeared to me that the defensive play calling was not nearly as aggressive as in years past (fewer pre-snap shifts and blitzes). I'm all for Wes doing things his way so long as it yields results on the field!
