Forecasted on Tnet several years ago that Clemson's path was negotiating with the B1G and forcing the SEC's hand, then making the best decision for Clemson if the SEC wants to keep the B1G out of Clemson and FSU.
Nothing has changed but some exit details IMHO. Similar to Bama/Auburn and Ole Miss/Miss St, in-state rivalries work for the SEC and many other leagues (e.g. Michigan/Mich St, Indiana/Purdue, etc.)

They will be in a conference which has no name at the present time. The top 48 to 64 football schools will be aligned by then.

The SUC is the logical choice based on geographic and monetary considerations. As much as I despise the SUC, that is where we'll wind up at in a couple of years.

I doubt today’s conferences will exist in ten years. They may keep the names but will be so different they will be unrecognizable. I’m hoping there will be 2-4 divisions with some geographic basis and they will all feed into the same playoff. I think we will be in the division in the south, whether it is named the SEC or something else.

I’m still saying the landscape will totally change if and when Clemson and FSU leave the ACC. They will probably not be the only two. There will be a realignment totally different from what we have now. It will be a sea change in college athletics.

It's either the B1G or Big 12.
The SEC does not want or need Clemson. I'm very doubtful they would exert much effort to prevent Clemson from going to the B1G.
