Insight on power outage in Anderson needed

Dec 24, 2022, 2:39 PM

Duke power said they're working on a fallen tree issue around Harris bridge road but I'm not seeing anything happening on that road or any fallen trees.
Power's been out since 8:30 this morning. They couldn't tell me if it will be restored soon or if will take several days. I suspected it was part of the rolling black out but they said it wasn't. Anybody got a clue what's happening?

Duke power told us it is a full outage and not rolling. They will have to deal with the tree and then take care of the rest as well. It should take a while, but its not clear on exactly how long.

Duke issued a statement. Apparently they are taking emergency actions due to the “extreme conditions “ and “increased usage”. Well ain’t that comforting?

As we close active power stations and not replace them this is gonna be the norm in the future. Be prepared for this to happen more and more as new businesses and homes are added to the power grid.

Welcome to Venezuela! Stores without all the products to choose from will be next, oh wait, already happening! Drug shortages next, oh wait, but we will fix the climate if we all get electric cars!

My brother lost power for 2-1/2 hours this morning in the Northlake area of Anderson.
He couldn't get an answer from Duke and since his neighbor works for Duke, he contacted her. She told him it was rolling blackouts. Not to say that there could be a line down somewhere too.

Take everything out of your freezer and put in outside. You’ll be ok.

Just shut down all the car chargers that should take care of the problem

All this is interesting. The government and utilities say be energy efficient and install a power saving heat pump. When it gets this cold, it won't keep the house warm and never shuts off (cha-ching), then the HVAC people (and owners manual) say turn on the thermostat emergency heat setting when it's this cold. The emergency heat cycle spins your electric meter like a frictionless bearing and makes $s (mega cha-ching) for the utilities.

As a result, they have to do rollling blackouts because the higher energy usage due to emergency heat settings, means more demand than power. BTW, when you do have power, do not charge your electric car. Save the power for others. Gotcha!
