It was targeting is what it was and in typical incompetent ACC officiating fashion, it was ignored.

I still hate the rule and don't think the guy purposefully tried to hit the head and neck area.

The tackler threw his elbow and upper arm directly into the head and neck area. Sure looked like targeting to me. Even more so in the slo-mo replays.

was stumbling out of control. It was accidental in my view.
HOWEVER, the way they call that stupid unnecessary rule, it should have been targeting and an ejection.

I played safety for 3 years . That hit was not meant to take down the runner that kid was hitting TL to inflict damage . Using his forearm and shoulder as a hammer ... he meant to hurt him . No question in my mind because in my immaturity and savagery as a pre-teen and teen I was doing the same types of things . I always went out there to hit people as hard as I could and with the hope that I would hurt somebody . Anyone that sees the Syracuse coach and player who both celebrated seeing that collision and still thinks it was happenstance is fooling themself .

but once he was past the los, he was a running back and not considered a "defenseless" player. while I love Trevor's effort on the play, it was a Horrible idea to not duck out of bounds and try to get a first down he could not have gotten anyway..I suspect every coach on the team (and his parents) tore him a new one for that effort..the db clearly pulled his head back and used his shoulder..But Trevor had everything extended and vulnerable..imo, the db did nothing wrong.

is why this was not smart on his part. He was getting the first down so throw it away.

definition of a defenseless player. Where the rule doesn't help in this situation is the part about 'a player who has obviously given himself up and is sliding feet first. Trevor had obviously given himself up and was horizontal and going down, but it wasn't feet first.
The rule protects QBs at all times. You even have to be careful blocking one after and INT or fumble. This was as close to forceful contact on a defenseless runner as you can get without it actually being called. The 'feet first' thing was the difference.

It wasn’t targeting. He became a runner & he wasn’t defenseless.

Yes your right, per the rule. It states that if a player is going down. No contact above the shoulders is alowwed by any part of the defenders body. This was well covered in the Ohio St. vs Penn St game. So yes, targeting should've been called. I don't however believe the defender meant any harm to Lawrence.

Yep, exactly covered in the penn st osu game...he’s going down, so no longer a runner...targeting.

Right. His intent was to try to hurt TL.

head. It was not an illegal hit.
The Syracuse defender kept his head up and led with his shoulder. Since TL was a runner and ducked his head, the Syracuse defender is allowed to lead with his shoulder. It's impossible for a defender to avoid hitting a runner on his helmet if the runner is lunging forward and ducks his head.

I have no argument for that because I don't remember it.

But the TL hit was not a penalty. I've seen Clemson hits that were also not penalties.
The last thing football needs is a hit like that being called a penalty.
The NFL is passed the point of no return. NFL is no longer football. College football is still a much safer version of football.

Honestly, the way his eyes looked when he was walking off of the field (hard blinking, etc.), I don’t see how that wasn’t at least a mild concussion. I hope he isn’t needed much, if at all on saturday, so can use these next couple of weeks to rest and recover fully.

Hopefully, another heavy dose of ETN is all that is needed against Wake. That should cut down on Trevor's hits to the body.

Hayell yeah! Broken neck and Dabo's playing the kid!!! She should learn to slide....better yet she should hand the ball off. Y'all aren't making the playoffs with those two girls at qb. Not every team you face will have defense ranked 96th.

The only way you would know they were girls is if your hands have been in their pants.

Forget the rule. He was tripped up, out of control and a few inches from doing a faceplant. He was not going anywhere. It was unnecessary!

The whistle should have ended that play as soon as TL's foot went out 4 ds prior to the hit. TL should not have tried to continue after stepping out. TL was part to blame.
It was just football. TL will start Saturday. Let's move on.
