Michigan has had a cake walk so far this season

2

Nov 6, 2023, 8:22 AM

the B1G is really bad and UM's OOC is awful. I'm sure there's a way for the B1G to get 2 teams in the playoff, but I don't see how they will have earned it.

The most boring conference to watch this season, imo.

Based on their CFP record the Top 3 are meh.

Totally agree. At least this weekend we'll get a feel of how good... or not that they are playing a team with a pulse. I don't think psu is a top team but should give them a game.

who has wins on their schedule better than Oregon and USC ?

They've also had some close calls.

The USC win doesn't look so good right now.
Cal scored 32 on them. (52-39)
They didn't get an offensive TD in a 15-7 win over AZ St.
They only beat Stanford 42-33.

Every undefeated team can give an argument why they should be #1. Every undefeated team can give an argument why they should be ranked ahead of UGA.

UGA struggled against SC and Auburn. But, they get a pass on those "struggle wins" while schools below them seem to be penalized.

Me? Who do I think is #1? I don't know. If I had a vote in a poll I'd probably rank them UGA, FSU, Washington, Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, Bama,....

I wouldn't rank Michigan because it is clear they have been breaking NCAA (and B1G) rules giving them an unfair advantage. As a voter, I don't have to wait for the B1G or NCAA to penalize them. I can do it now.

But, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter. There are two immutable rules for making the playoffs for a P5 team.

1. Win em all and you're in.
2. Lose 1 and you need some help.

Next year, with 12 in, the rules will change slightly.

1. Win em all and you're in.
2. Lose 1 and you're in.
3. Lose 2 and you need some help.

which 2 wins do UGA, FSU, Michigan, or Ohio State have

USC's not looking like the juggernaut everyone thought. It's tough to see the QB shoulder all the attention after their loses. Yes he was and may still be a Heismann hopeful but the Coach is the one with a W/L record. When will the national media start questioning Lincoln Riley?

You play the games on the schedule and that is all you can do.

No. You get to pick who's on your schedule.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Saturday may tell us something.

2

Nov 6, 2023, 8:51 AM

But, then again, it may not.

Penn State has an elite D. They lead in nation in rushing defense. They will be the first real test Michigan has faced. But, here is the problem - other than Ohio State, Michigan has also had a weak schedule.

So, if Penn State stifles Michigan offense, does that mean the Penn State D is strong, or does it just mean the Michigan O is not nearly as good as touted??

If Michigan runs over Penn State, does that mean Michigan is the dominant team in America, or does it just mean Penn State has played a bunch of patsies?

Nobody is scoring on Michigan. They are giving up numbers roughly equal to the 1993 FSU defense. Around 6 points per game. Can they hold Penn State to single digits?

I'm not a Penn State fan, but I am this Saturday. I'd love for them to score 30 on Michigan. I'd love a 38-7 blowout. But, I'll be happy with a one point win, be in 7-6 or 42-41.

I will too but it's so hard to get a feel for psu. Only team they've played is (imo) osu and struggled to move the ball. Easy to score 50 against Delaware. No way they're 11th but who else would you put in front of them... idk.

Uga may get beat this week but I just don't think ole miss has a D with a pulse so uga will be able to score.

Bama is not the same Bama team that Texas beat. Just like with Dabo's teams, Bama gets better as the season progresses. I put
Uga
Fsu
Wash
Bama
Osu
Mich

The big 10 should ban michigan from postseason games

1

Nov 6, 2023, 9:17 AM

due to their in person scouting. The other big 10 schools have asked their conference to do the right thing and not let michigan slow walk the ncaa investigation until after the season.

The B1G gets money for each team in the CFP. They have an interest and probably won't act without a ton of pressure. It's up to the individual programs. Will a school value integrity enough to tell ESPN/FOX/NBC, "We won't play until there's an honest investigation"? Start taking away TV revenue and you'll get action. I'll be an instant fan of the school with the big shiney's to take a stand. Hoping they'll be the best of the B1G.

UGA ..... pains me to say it
Washington .....but they will find a way to screw it up
Alabama ..... will be either them or UGA ..... suspect they beat UGA ......
FSU ...... will be there by elimination .... don't really think they are that good
OSU ........ will lose to Michigan
Oregon ........ neutral
Michigan ....... depends on whether they allow cheaters in the CFP

This is as of right now ........

Oregon looked better than Washington

Nov 6, 2023, 11:25 AM

But Lanning made some overly aggressive rookie HC moves. Oregon is surprisingly good. Looks like FSU, Oregon, UGA and Mich/Ohio St winner to me.

CFP's already sold their soul in the situation. They state they have no input on whether they field cheaters or not. They just hold the playoffs.

Here's the problem with the current Big 10 and has been for some time...

1

Nov 6, 2023, 10:05 AM

Year in and year out there are only 3 teams that seem to have any type of pulse in the Big10: Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. Even then - Penn State teeters on the edge of being nothing but a poser since they have an abysmal record against top 10 ranked teams.

The rest of the Big10 is a who's who of "haven't been relevant in the modern era of football" teams that just serve up wins to pad the resumes of Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. Sure - Wisconsin catches lightning in a bottle every blue moon but typically the Big10 is mostly a collection of big student body schools with mediocre football teams.

I don't know that anyone can truly judge Michigan at this point. Even a win against Penn State may not tell us much even though the pundits (especially the Northeast sports press) will fawn all over it. I think it will come down to what it always does - Ohio State vs Michigan for the one Big10 team to have a chance at the 4 team CFP.

It will be interesting to see how the Big10 top teams change with the addition of USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington. The Big10 may find that only one of their current top 3 (Ohio State) continues to be successful...

Re: Michigan has had a cake walk so far this season

There's a reason Rutgers was asked to join the B1G and there's a reason the media builds the B1G. That reason is exposed in the CFP. They keep telling us Michigan, OSU and PSU are good and quality wins and they keep wetting the bed in the CFP. B1G is 3-7 in the CFP. The PAC-12 has a better winning percentage.

It's all about advertising dollars and viewership.
