Mixed emotions!

I love Clemson University and Dabo. I have been going to games much longer that 98.5% of others on here having attended my first game in the mid-1950's. I still buy season tickets and I live and die by Clemson athletics ....... not just football. I was delighted when our Air Rifle club team won the national championship not so many years ago. Seems petty for many, but that's just me!

By now, we all ought to know that Dabo wears his emotions on his sleeve. Should he have said what he said about the 1.5% ......... probably not, and although he will probably not admit it, I think he knows he should not have said it. Of course, that does not mean it is not true and we all know that. We picked up a lot of fans because we were winning, many who have very little who have anything invested in Clemson and many who are quick to jump ship. I am not complaining about them, as I love having people like Clemson.

If we were 7-0 and Dabo said that, what would the reaction have been? I assume not nearly as harsh as being 4-3. If anyone deserves some slack at a time like this, it is Dabo. Right, wrong, or somewhere in between, I think he has earned and deserves some level of understanding now and for those of us that love Clemson and to offer him some support and encouragement.

I agree with everything you have said (I didn't know about the air rifle team), however this view is very difficult on those Johnny come lately people that only know Clemson as a constant winner. Those that truly love Clemson understand that every game, in every sport, is not a win. Does that, or should that, lower our expectations? No, we always want to win, but we must understand that won't always be the outcome.

So Dabo is beyond reproach??

Oct 23, 2023, 2:05 PM

His arrogance and pride are costing this program right now. Hiring 5 assistant coaches that were either friends or ex ball players that have never coached in college is why we are here now. His insistence that he was smarter than everyone and he alone could do it this way when no one else in the country could. Now his pride won’t let him admit that he was wrong. The experiment has been an absolute failure. The only reason we are winning games is because we are out athletics people, not out coaching them. The players aren’t getting developed and it is a direct result of having inexperienced coaches that have never developed anyone. Our program should never be where people who have never coached college football cut their teeth and learn to coach. Much less 5 guys on the same staff in that boat. This would never happen at any school in the top 75. Yet coach felt he was smarter than everyone and would prove everyone wrong. Now his pride won’t allow him to make the necessary changes.

This has been coming for 3-4 years and the writing was on the wall but no one wanted to see it and if it was pointed out certain fans would call you a coot.

I hope he swallows his pride and makes the necessary changes but I doubt he will.

Funny, but people who know him do not think he is nither arrogant nor prideful. Stubborn ..... maybe, but who among us is not. He is going to stand up for his players and his coaches, even if he has to make a change. I am sure that he is examining this now, all of this ...... and not because he is feeling pressure from people who don't have a clue, but think they do, but because he wants to win as badly as anyone else.

My first reaction may be much like many on here have expressed, but I just can't overlook what he has done for this university in the past and the classy way he has handled this program. If you can look past wins and losses, you can see many wonderful young men who have achieved and will achieve much more than victories on the football field.
