Check out last picture, when was the last time you saw a visiting team bring down a goalpost?

Mine too! Never forget the days and nights leading up to this game. Clemson was a very small school but the campus was electric all week. Remember Gator Garrs appearance??? Remember the banging of the drums by the Cadet corp. all night???
Glad I was a part of that moment.

Great photos and fond memories. I was there with my mom, dad, and two brothers. It was an annual family affair. We lived in the lower part of the state, and that was the only game we could attend during a season. My first Big Thursday game was in 1954, and I attended all through 1959.

Regardless of contribution amount, the coots only allowed a maximum of 2 tickets per IPTAY member. IPTAY was only $10 then, and my dad, my older brother, and I were members. We got 5 tickets for the family every year.

The battle to get home and home games was hard fought over many years, and the Clemson Nation finally won with a united threat, including the BOT, to stop playing the coots. The coots' main argument was that Clemson didn't have adequate roads for the traffic.

Coach Howard's response was, "You gamecocks won't have traffic problems. You go home when you're getting bead bad, and you'll be back in Columbia listening on your radios when your games in Clemson end."

You might not have been 2 months old? Big Thursday was played during Fair Week (about 3rd week of Oct.) Not at end of November like the present.

1 month then!

I had just turned 5 two days prior. My oldest sister was

just a junior in high school. As neither of my parents attended college, we had no affiliation at the time. That sister got married right out of high school, and did not attend college until many years later. She graduated from Limestone with an accounting degree. It was not until 1963 that my other sister attended Cooterville. Older brother followed her there in 1966. (She graduated that same year, finishing in three years. That place was easy.)

EYE obviously attended Clemson, starting in 1972. It was anything BUT easy for me! THAT was my first Clemson-Carolina game, 1972.

Finishing the chronology, my younger brother, who worshipped our older brother, and tried to be like him in every way possible, also attended Cooterville, starting in 1977.

Most football seasons are a lot more fun for me than they ever are for my siblings.

:)

I was there, too

It wasn't my 1st as I lived in cooterville for 6 yrs. and sold cokes at most coot games. Missed 1 or 2 every year, but never Big Thursday. Would go to the State Fair and spend every penny I made. My Uncle was a '52 Clemson Grad and I got to go to a good many home games with him.

Saw that same Uncle at the last Big T game, as I was selling, and he was with a well-endowed gal that wasn't my Aunt. He looked like a ghost. I went with him for at least 1 game a year for the next 5 or 6 years and I think he told me at least 3 different stories about who she was. I never ratted, miss you Uncle Tommy.

10/22/59 was the last Big Thursday game...

which was about three and-a-half years before I was born.

That said, obviously the CootU stadium has always been an absolute dump. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Clemson lost the road game to them in 1969!

Having lived up north most of my life I didn't know a thing about it. Our line coach in high school was a coot and he had it on the radio as we were at football practice. Obviously a very big thing to him. We played at Greenwood later that year and went to Clemson for the Maryland game the next day. I think the high school student tickets cost 50 cents.
