There seems to be a lot of people on here that act like the current NIL and portal strategies, basically offering the most money, are illegal. No, you CAN do that now. Even if you don’t like it, that is the way it works now. Nothing sketchy about it. Clemson will go extinct without adapting, even if most of us, including myself, don’t like the changes. But acting like using these new resources is some illegal, evil thing is silly

I agree with you. But the The NIL and portal will eventually get so out of control that nobody will want to watch football anymore. It use to be about who can recruit the best, and who can assemble the best teams and the best coaching staff. Now all the talent is distributed everywhere vs basically 8 teams. The portal not only strips talent but it also strips depth in a roster. This broad distribution of talent to different teams has made it harder to predict games. Teams that use to be great and untouchable are now just good and defeat-able. I personally, am not of fan of that. I understand players want to play and they want money but, for me personally the portal and NIL has ruined my college football watching experience. I use to enjoy watching great coaches recruit at a high level and get all the talent to assemble the greatest rosters. Not it’s all about making teams even and giving everyone a chance to play. I’m not a fan. But definitely not illegal and it is the norm, so Clemson definitely needs to adjust.

Illegal means against the law but our laws do not cover recruiting for college sports. We do have NCAA rules and those rules are clearly prohibit upfront NIL payments for the purpose of attracting players. Unfortunately, those rules are not enforced. So yes, it is against the rules, it is sketchy and Clemson will not go extinct by not doing something which has a very clear downside.
