Is Dabo officially on the Hot Seat?

Oct 22, 2023, 9:23 AM

Not sure who you replace him with but I think he’s seat is a little warmer than it has been. Very Jimbo Fisher thing to have all this talent and be 4-3 heading into the gauntlet of the season

You mentioned, Texas, Lsu any Florida school and Michigan. All those schools would beat Clemson. LSU, UT. UofM are Program schools. Meaning that they can withstand coaching changes sanctions whatever, May take a coach or 2 to figure it out but they are destination schools. Dabo is Clemson football! Clemson will not be relevant without Dabo. At the end of the day Clemson plays in the middle of nowhere SC and in the ACC. I would guess most college fans have no idea what city Clemson is in

Re: Is Dabo officially on the Hot Seat?

Yes and no.

If you say 'hot seat' means his job is on the line depending on the rest of the season? No. His recent history and 64 or so million we would need to send him packing assures that he'll still be here.

However, if 'hot seat' means feeling the pressure and starting to make substantive changes because he's beginning to really hear the noise? I would think most definitively yes.

I'd make them for him by bringing in his replacement and firing him for insubordination. That would be for cause and would void his buyout.

Dabo does not have a "boss". He dictates to the AD what he will do. His salary his 14X his superior. He will be here until the 10 year deal expires and then ride off into a wealthy retirement. BOT has oversight but they will let things play out since Dabo is a legend with two Natty's and a good graduation rate. He will do as he pleases. The friends and family approach worked before so it will likely continue with only minor tweaks.

Dabo's impact on Clemson University reaches areas that can't be measured. He is the face of Clemson and has done more than anyone to build the brand. Clemson isn't just football, although for most not directly affiliated with the University it's hard to fathom, and sadly, for some that are.

Go Tigers!

Re: Of course not

He is the football coach. He isn’t the president of the university. His job is to literally win football games.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It would take 2 more seasons like this for his seat to get hot at all

Oct 22, 2023, 9:33 AM

Even if things were to go completely downhill from here, we've seen this play out elsewhere. He's gonna get an opportunity to replace his staff before his own job is in any jeopardy.

Just look at how long Les Miles was able to hang on at LSU. That was with half the success that Dabo has had, and even crazier fans trying to push him out the door.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It would take 2 more seasons like this for his seat to get hot at all

3

Oct 22, 2023, 9:39 AM

You do realize that this didn’t happen overnight and what we are seeing is a direct cause of Dabo doing things “his way” in spite of others saying it wouldn’t work. I mean when he was hiring friends and family he earned the right to do so. That was his chance to prove his way worked. It’s been a dismal failure and needs to be addressed now, not later. Either Dabo addresses it or we need to address Dabo

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of course I realize this didn't happen overnight

1

Oct 22, 2023, 9:50 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is Dabo officially on the Hot Seat?

Oct 22, 2023, 9:39 AM

His job will be when the stadium stops filling up and the bowls payouts fall off. Right now, there's been one bowl outside of the NY6 and the stadium is still full. I agree his impact is bigger than football wins and losses but ultimately, those 2 things will be how he is judged.

Clemson couldn't fire him if tbey wanted to. His buyout is over 50 million dollars. Yet another example of poor decisions by a university athletic department. But at least the next coach won't have to worry about following a legend when it does happen!

When coaches enter into big contracts, the fans expect big results. We are slipping and if massive changes aren't made, then it certainly deserves to heat up.

It is a results-based business.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is Dabo officially on the Hot Seat?

Oct 22, 2023, 1:46 PM

We have big expectations, but at some point we have to ask were those expectations reasonable. We expect him to finish in the top 4 of 133 annually. Some expect more than that. I can't count the number of people that point to losing to LSU in the National Championship as the beginning of our downfall. I'm not trying to say this year is acceptable, but at this point it is an outlier.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is Dabo officially on the Hot Seat?

2

Oct 22, 2023, 9:52 AM

My goodness. The man has won 2 NC’s and I cannot even remember how many ACC championships.

Here is the issue and we all knew it would be. Clemson cannot compete with the NIL dollars needed to be elite. The downfall has begun unfortunately and the hope / wait till next year will be gone in about 5 years for Clemson and many other programs. The downfall of CFB has begun. Veiwership will really start to taper off in about 5 years.

Re: Is Dabo officially on the Hot Seat?

You act like Dabo won those by himself. Let us not forget he had BV and Chad Morris, Jeff Scott etc and was recruiting top level talent. BV is now 7-0 and many realize just how important he was to our success if not entirely.

Since that time we have less talent and inexperienced coaches at just about every level. Can we get back there? Sure. Let Riley clean house and get good coaches to implement his offense. This would mean not everyone on staff would be overpaid Dabo worshipers with no where else to go if they get out of line so it isn’t going to happen and this thing is going to crap the bed. Some people are aware of danger before tragedy, others fall off the side of cliffs and such

NIL, transfer portal, players not panning out, coaches still learning, anti-Clemson bias, or just “bad luck.”

It’s laughable at this point.

Re: Is Dabo officially on the Hot Seat?

I don’t think so at all. But I think his time here may be limited by his growing frustration with going up against the changes he correctly sees as ruining college football. Looks like it’s starting to wear on him already. And imho I don’t see a way around the new realities and still be elite.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is Dabo officially on the Hot Seat?

1

Oct 22, 2023, 12:12 PM

I agree, he doesn’t like the portal and NIL but he also doesn’t like losing. He likes when the fans like him also. If it continues to spiral he may retire. I hope adapts- he has before very successfully- but those adaptations were at the coaching level not the structural changes we are seeing in the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up
