Offseason conditioning program

What are colleges allowed to do with team members in the offseason in regard to conditioning? Are they allowed formal team activities for this (just not football practice) or does it have to be done on an individual basis?

......but our guys need to look at film of themselves and what has transpired over the years. They should see how small and weak looking we were in quite a few positions. After seeing film... they should feel sick to their core as they witness themselves struggling to make 4 yards when its time to dig in deep. They should be ticked off about the angles and missed tackles. They should want to take ownership on a level like never before......to get bigger ....to get stronger...and to get faster.

Conditioning itself is “not mandatory”

Generally, while formal practices may not occur immediately after the season, conditioning programs may be considered voluntary during certain periods.

Even though it’s “non mandatory”, it’s college football. You better have your a** out there. There’s another guy right behind you to take your spot. And players can do that by showing abilities in conditioning as well as practices.

I understand the work Dabo puts his teams through in the off-season, but I need to see bigger and stronger players, faster players, and smarter plays.

These guys need to get physically and mentally built for a championship.

I truly believe Adam Smotherman’s exit was impactful. I understand Venables left and on and on, but Adam’s intensity in that role he was in prepared our teams every which way they needed to be.

Dabo has an "Accountability" point system that includes practice, class, tudors, film study and offseason workouts. If you have enough points, you get to be on travel team even if you probably wont play. So those guys that slack-off, they will be left out of some team functions and maybe find themselves in the "Love Shack". That said, any player that isn't doing offseason drills and workouts will fall behind and they will get weeded out.

I think Clemson has something called power hour too. It's not mandatory but is a way for the kids that summer to bulk up

Power Hour goes back to the every fall even before Joey Batson when Gary Wade was the strength and conditioning coach.... Its for the redshirt freshman and walk-ons to get an extra weight training session Friday AM, many of whom won't be traveling to the hotel or airport early Friday afternoon.

Things may have changed over the years b/c it seems more travel than they used to, but that is what it is.

It is not optional.... and there is no such thing as a "voluntary" workout. Its voluntary in the eyes of the NCAA b/c you are limited a certain number of hours per week of lifting, film and practice. But if you want to ever see the field, you will be there.
