Our ACC Schedule and seeding come NCAA Tourney

It's a shame we don't have much room for error as it relates to seeding for the NCAA tournament. Below is why we're not out of the woods yet.

The ACC W-L record for conference opponents played Y-T-D is 20-28.

The ACC W-L record for remaining conference opponents is 39-51

The ACC W-L record for our entire conference opponents is 59-79.

This was not a good year to play most of the bad teams twice and most of the good teams just once.

If we finish 20 plus wins & at least the top 4 in our conference, there is no possible way the committee will exclude us from the tournament. I will grant you that our seeding may not be that great. But there is no way possible...even with our weak schedule...that a major conference doesn't send at least 4 teams.

If we go 8-5 in the remaining conference games, that would put us at 23-8. That should be good enough to get in. Winning a game in the tournament would probably remove any doubt.

Right. It's not a slam dunk at 20+. We only have to go all the way back to last season when a 23-8 Wake Forest, 5th in the ACC, lost their first round game to BC and missed the NCAA at 23-9. Two programs behind them in the standings made it in over.

We really don't have a lot of room for error, especially down the stretch where even a small swoon could taint some jurists.

Then let's go 9-4 the rest of the way... just to be safe ;)

Seedings dont really matter after first round. Quote from Bobby Knight.

Would love to get at least a 4 seed. This year it might take winning the tournament or at least getting to the ACC finals along with a no mid year slump. If you are 5 or above, it's really a crap shoot in the first round. Those 5-12, 6-11, 7-10 are always tough.

We are miles away from a 4 seed

I certainly hope we are in the 1-4 seeds in the ACC tournament though. Get the double-bye.

Winning the ACC tourney would be an absolute miracle. Maybe this is the year though! If so, Brownell gets a statue and lifetime contract.

I'm pretty sure we are set up to only play most good...

teams once. Don't hold me to it but I'm pretty sure we always play Duke, UNC, and UVA once per season.

Re: I'm pretty sure we are set up to only play most good...

No.

Each team will play its two primary rivals every season both home and away (four games, Ga Tech and FSU remain Clemson's primary home-and-away opponents) and four repeat opponents both home and away (eight games). The remaining eight opponents will be single games, four at home and four on the road. Total of 20 conference games, 10 home, 10 road.

So each team plays every other team at least once, plays its permanent opponents twice, home-and-away. And rotates through the other 12 teams with 4 home-and-away games, then 4 home and 4 away games.

The full cycle of repeat opponents will be complete following the third year.

What I'm not clear on is the rotation, like do we get Duke, UNC, UVA once each for two years, then get all of them twice in one year? Or do we get some breaks with say UNC and UVA twice one year, then Duke twice another year?

Not finding that level of detail anywhere just yet.

https://theacc.com/documents/2022/6/16/ACC_MBB_FutureMatchups_2023_25.pdf

Here we go. In addition to getting Ga Tech and FSU twice every year:

One year (like this year) we get Lousville, NC State, Va Tech, and Wake Forest twice. We play all the other teams once.

The next year we will get Miami, UNC, Pitt, and Syracuse twice. We play all the other teams once.

The third we will get BC, Duke, ND, and UVA twice. We play all the other teams once.

So we caught a break, and don't have both Duke and UNC twice in any given year. Of course, there's Miami and UVA and... to contend with, but we did get a split on the "traditional powers".

We just need to stockpile as many wins as possible.....

I assume that we will do well enough the rest of the way....
Quantity of wins also matters.
Need to avoid a slump or whatever...but this team has been pretty consistent.

I will say that NCAA seeding is the last thing I'm concerned about.
Making the tournament is the main thing....and then winning regardless of seed.

Would love to get top 4 in ACC....and actually have a shot at winning the ACC tourney
for the first time by only playing 3 games. That would be a really huge deal.

We do have several tough games left (Miami, at N.C. State, at UNC, at UVA and at Wake)....those will all be difficult...especially with 4 of them on the road. Syracuse probably will be a tough game as well. Going on the road to places like FSU and BC, even when they are down, is not automatic. I feel pretty good about home games against Va. Tech, Ga. Tech, FSU, and Notre Dame, as well as the road game at Louisville.

Heard a guy on the radio today talking about the ACC. He said he's waiting to see how we perform on the road and will hold out until we go to places like Cameron Indoor. My first thought was how do you draw a paycheck and don't even know the schedule of the teams you're covering.
