QB Comp/Cade

So with how things have been the last 4 years, and even going back to Deshaun and Stoudt, Kelly and Trevor, and of course DJ and Cade…

IF..Vizzina has a very good off-season, is there any chance there’s a change made?

You know, against Georgia I don’t think there will be much patience for Cade making stupid mistakes. If he continues this, which I predict he will not be able to shake the butterfingers, I think CV17 needs to be given a chance.

Is Dabo’s trigger quicker now with QB rotation?

That's his only reply to any creditable football question anyone posts here. My theory is he has zero knowledge of anything sports related and him calling everyone a coot is his only way of making everyone think he does. He's just a troll

If things go really badly for CD against UGA, it's hard to imagine things get much better by sticking in a QB who hasn't played.

@AFDAWG

It’s actually funny, you bring up something I’ve wanted to discuss with a Georgia fan but I don’t know any.

Deshaun had never played a snap and he came in and slung it all over Georgia in 2014 in Athens. In my opinion, if Deshaun had stayed the starter from after that TD Deshaun throw against Georgia, we would’ve been at least 11-1 in 2014.

I think Deshaun would’ve led Clemson to a victory in Athens, and later on against #1 FSU without Jameis Winston. But Cole Stoudt came back in against Georgia and also costed us against FSU.

You never know.

Highly doubtful.

Yes, he hit the two quick passes early, but we didn't show him anything on defense. No stunts, no twists, no blitzes, straight man coverages, no nothing. About as vanilla as a spring game, which is pretty common 1st time seeing a QB.
After that one possession, he was ineffective. When he came back in, we started running twists, delayed blitzes, straight blitzes, cloud coverages, switch coverages, and so on. Stuff he either hadn't seen, or wasn't ready for. As good of a QB as he went on to become, he looked every bit like a freshman in his first game. Dabo did the right thing by limiting his snaps - without question.
Besides, he couldn't have done much to stop Todd Gurley from rushing for 200 yards - or Nick Chubb from getting 70 on 4 carries.

Unless CV17 made some unbelievable jump there will be no competition at quarterback. Cade is the starter and play every meaningful down unless injured.

I actually believe that Cade's mishaps was a direct result of the O line break down before he had a chance to set his feet, and most DC saw that the best way to keep it close or win was to keep pressure on Cade throughout the entire game bc sooner than later he would start making adjustments on his own that usually led to breaking all the eggs at once...

The kid is a gamer, and he wants to win and that means even if he has to try and do it all himself!!!

of wins. But I'm not sure he's proven he's a 'gamer' yet. At least by my thoughts, a gamer is a player who rises above his observed talent level in the highest pressure situations. I hope he gets there, but we havent seen much of this yet.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, I don't think Dabo will be quick to pull Cade against Georgia. That's crazy.

It's just the first game of the season and a loss to Georgia would not be the end of our season or our playoff possibilities.

With our defense, I would think we stick with the run game, take some pressure off Cade, and use tempo and play action passes to wear them down.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed! What will be crazy is the narrative depending on which team loses

Clemson loses, no longer elite and not a contender in 2024 season in the weak ACC.

Georgia loses, it is first game of season and they are SEC, plenty of time to get right.

Clemson wins, is it possible Clemson is ready to climb to that mountaintop again??

Georgia wins, well it was expected as they are SEC and therefore the better team and look strong early.

The jitters/rattles/cracks he showed last year were definitely worrisome.

Nothing about him leaned toward the 3 C's, cool/calm/collected. Made some bad decisions, but also he made some really tremendous throws and plays throughout the season. You could see the potential, it is now about getting his head straight and his pocket presence established. Would like to see him have a better feel in the pocket, had a case of the happy feel far too often last year. Part of the problem is he thinks he can make every play, every throw, all the time no matter what.....and unfortunately nobody can do that. He has tremendous confidence, you can see it in his face but he simply needs to continue to grow and learn.

As for Vizzina, he will have ample opportunity to show his worth in spring practice, summer camps. He had a steep learning curve so hopefully he took some of that injury time and really learned the playbook as best you can while you are unable to practice.

I think Dabo will have a shorter leash, Coach wants to be back into the national title hunt and this years team could very well get us back there if everything goes well.

Go Tigers!!

Three thoughts, for what they're worth:
1. He would not go down without a great deal of contact.
2. He doesn't have the speed to backpedal and turn a 2nd and 3 into a 3rd and 35.
3. I don't think we'll fool anyone in the wildcat formation that we might throw a pass there.

I believe that the team will play tempo against the dawgs and Cade will have a great game. If Cade plays horrible, there is no way Dabo inserts a green quarterback.

100% Agree. I think we all know Dabo's track record with loyalty to players that have been there. I just dont see him pulling Cade in that particular game. Now if Cade is struggling against the Citadel that temporary switch could be made. Regardless. Cade would have to #### the bed multiple times over to lose the job. Dabo dosent make that switch until hes sure

1. I think Dabo believes in Cade to a fault.
2. I don’t think Vizzina or any other QB on our team is starter material at this point.

As Obed® has said. Cade is Kyle Parker 2.0. That’s a perfect description of him.
