Bear at Alabama dominated 1961-66, winning titles in 61, 64, 65, and undefeated in '66. Then, 67-70 fell to not winning more than 8, going 6-5 and 6-5-1 in 69 and 70. Then he put in the wishbone and dominated again from 71-79 with only 1 season losing more than once.
Likewise, Switzer's Oklahoma dominated 73-80 never losing more than twice, dropped off losing 4 each year 81 to 83, only to return to dominance 84 to 87 with another title in 85 and 11-1 in 86 and 87.
Joe Paterno at Penn St won titles in 82 and 86, dropped to 5-6 in 88, but back to an undefeated 12-0 in 94 (Didnt get voted a title that year)
Great coaches have down years and later get back to greatness. Don't think it can't happen, esp since Dabo isn;t old yet. I think too many are comparing to Saban and remembering Bobby Bowden's decline.
FYI, I found a very good series of videos on youtube last night about the history of the wishbone, some of you might enjoy it.

Had the portal/NIL come along during their tenure, if they had refused to use it while their opponents did, the records shown above would be different. Much different.

Bear fell on his losing streak due to keeping his team segregated. Soon as he integrated, he jumped back on top I don't even see that as a valid comparison.

If Dabo dips into the portal some, and bounces back it seems pretty similar.

The wish bone is interesting, but the wing T is truly fascinating. You can run pretty much any play imaginable out of the wing T and it's variant formations.

The game's (not X/Os --- NIL, portal, realignment, politics, PR, etc) too complicated anymore and despite the ridiculous salary and CEO style, he's a purist. All about the kids.
Which is why I think he'll step away and hit the chicken dinner circuit for $10,000/table.
