phone with my California buyer, who is back in California settling up, and I put him on a video call, which I rarely do. Wellll, we spoke for about 5 minutes, and say our "we'll talk laters...", but before he hung up, I heard someone on his end say," Well, you can certainly tell HEEEEEE'S from the South".......

They do seem to have moved here for good reasons. Sounds like they wanted to get closer to their kids and getting out of CA was a bonus for them.

Ok. You keep screening them for us…. Met the guy that bought the property behind us. If he puts the size pond he wants to in there he will have to get DHEC involved which he was trying to avoid. But if he does put the big pond in like he wants we will end up with a pretty nice view.

I get along with pretty much everyone. But I really don’t want to see SC become anything like CA. One thing I have really learned, especially in the last 10 years or so is tolerance. Doesn’t mean I like it, but I’ve learned to tolerate most people and things.

Upstate and coastal SC are full !
When out of state people ask me about these areas I tell them the weather is dreadful, the insects huge and aggressive, the food bland and mushy.... and anything else disparaging I can think of....

I do the same here in the lowcountry when someone from the left coast asks me how I like it here....bugs are basically flying rattlesnakes, water is full of sharks, weather is dreadful, hurricanes a constant threat....you need a snorkel just to breathe in summertime because the humidity's bad, can't find tofu anywhere.......

I was born and raised in an another part of the country that will remain unnamed.
After graduating from Clemson I decided to stay in South Carolina because of the people. (Not because I needed a job, or because my parents took vacations here) South Carolinian's are awesome people. My wife, our son, my in-laws, and most of my friends are South Carolinian's.
Be who you are is right 👍.

I travel frequently and people feel compelled to always comment on my Southern accent. I find it interesting as I never comment on any else’s accent even though it’s obvious they are from Ohio or wherever. I think a Southerner is seen as a bit of an antiquity

For sure. There may be people from California on this board, but I don’t care. We’ve had several people from California move into our neighborhood and they are the most stuck up and arrogant people I’ve ever been around. All they do is put down the south and Southerners. I don’t understand why they moved here if it’s “so bad”. I won’t even speak to them at this point.

I had 2 roommates at Clemson in the 80’s that were from Pittsburgh. One of them got tired of being called a Yankee and hearing that Southerners were so nice etc. Her family moved to Indiana her freshman year at Clemson and she spent her summers there. She said Midwesterners were just as nice. There are A-holes everywhere in the USA. Some areas just have more 😁

When Daddy'd fly to Philly or NY for meetings with bankers who wanted to loan him money back when you had to fly out there for stuff like that, they'd almost always poke fun at his speech, his boots, his jeans, his one navy blazer that smelled like sweat and cigarettes.
I finally asked him why none of that stuff bothered him.
