But it’s just CBS and not some blogger so I’d take it with a grade of slaw

I can't see Clemson, FSU, and Miami going for this

Aug 7, 2023, 4:51 PM

even if you add the ACCN to cable households in Cali... I don't think the revenue is there to even come close.

No those 2 teams would not move the needle much. I’m not even thinking ND moves the needle as much as what we are going to need.

Only need 3/4 vote to get in… they don’t need us to support it

Not too sure they have many options.

The only schools coming to the ACC have to be this desperate to even consider it.

Only two scenarios where this is worth it:

1. ESPN uses this as an excuse to renegotiate the ACC deal to appease FSU, Clemson and Miami. This would likely mean giving the ACC the 15- 20M a year you were planning to spend on the PAC 12.

2. This and the lack of a big contract without a concrete schedule, brings ND to the table.

Both seem highly unlikely and this move would have looked a lot better with Oregon/Washington still available.

In terms of raising the academic prestige level of the ACC, it would be a great addition. However, from an athletic perspective, I can't see it making much sense at all. But the executive powers to be in the ACC are so desperate to have any option at this point you could certainly understand why they might get behind it.

Should have went in heavy on getting some big fish a long time ago instead of bringing in Cuse and BC.

The ACC has always been a reactionary conference . Never the leader. And it will always remain that way. Stuck in the past.

Stanford Stadium was torn down and completely rebuilt about 20 years ago. It's not huge, maybe 50K. It has individual stadium seats, not bleacher seats, and there is no dirt behind the seats. There is nothing on the Stanford campus that is anything but first class. The money at that university is unbelievable.

I agree with you. I really wish Miami,FSU,and Virginia Tech would have not tanked when joining as well.

Aug 7, 2023, 6:15 PM

I'm only asking because I don't know how it works. If the ACC added any new teams such as Stanford of UCAL, would that mean the GOR is void until every school agreed to different terms?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That would have to be the case

Aug 7, 2023, 6:30 PM

No way there is a clause in there that says ACC can add whatever useless program they want without any agreement from member institutions. Then again, the GOR was already so mind-numbingly stupid and they all agreed to that, so......

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Beyond stupid. So Im sure the ACC will do it.***

Re: Stanford and U Cal are interested

This is not football motivated. This is a push to add 2 crown jewel institutions with championship olympic sports programs, with hundred of national championships They are also among the top 5 academic institutions in the country and likely have produced more high tech billionaires than any other 10 schools.
Plus, it may be a catalyst to have ESPN revisit the GoR. They immediately get 2 teams to fill their later Saturday night "block" with a game at 10pm in east, 7pm local or 11/8. They are today blank in that slot having allowed Fox to dominate the PAC. So that is a big carrot for ESPN .

No thanks. Leave the lefty libs where they are. We want no part of any left over PAC schools.
