TL;DR:
The Baylor Bears have a dern fine basketball program and a solid if not great coach in Scott Drew.
They're experienced in big games and are tough, but not impossible to beat.
If Clemson beats them, Clemson has absolutely done something noteworthy.
Kim Mulkey of LSU fame made her bones coaching Baylor's women to a b-ball natty.
Baylor was chartered by the Republic of Texas in 1845. Baylor people are particularly proud of that.
And it's Baptist.

Someone asked in another thread if calling them the "Baptists" is an insult. Yes. Get over it.
It's in Waco, which we referred to either as "Wack-o" or "Jerusalem-on-the-Brazos" given Baylor's evangelical roots, and Jerusalem's place in Christian eschatology, and the fact that Brazos river skirts the edge of campus.
Waco is NOT anything like Chip and Joanna portray it. Waco is mostly a dump with a few splotches of class mixed in.
Waco has one skyscraper which gave rise to the joke that it's the only city in Texas that shoots you the finger as you drive through it on the way to Dallas or Austin.
I think Steve Martin (who was born in Waco) came up with that one.
Baylor straddles I-35 and is about 90 mins from Dallas, 90 mins from Austin and the University of Texas where I matriculated.
Baylor in my day did not allow dancing or drinking or hooking-up on or even off-campus. Or sorority or frat houses. Still doesn't allow drinking and the Greek houses.
A few HS friends chose Baylor. They were about as wild as we were and simply found creative ways to have a good time and hook-up.
That's Baylor/Wacko as I experienced it.

I remember my 7th grade English teacher went to Baylor...She always followed their athletics...Mind you this was in 1980 when Grant Teaff still coached football there.
I can't remember how she ended up in Ohio but she was a very nice lady..Her and her family had a farm...Her son was a very good hoops player that passed from cancer at a young age...She was great to talk with.

When I was at Texas, Baylor was not an easy win. That was after Teaff -- but not too long after Teaff.
Drove up for a couple of games at Baylor and laughed watching Baylor bowheads/frats roll in around mid-second quarter and leave mid-third quarter. That was back when the stadium was 10 mins from campus.
Lots of fine folks have come out of Baylor. It is a fine school after all the trash-talking's done.

Had a chance to visit Waco a few years ago. Didn’t think it was a dump, just kind of a normal American city of that size. Baylor campus was too spread out for my liking. New football stadium on the river is pretty cool.
Had bad BBQ there, which was shocking. Of all the great BBQ in Texas I somehow chose the one restaurant where it wasn’t good. The most highly recommended one in town was closed on a Sunday evening, so chose another one down the list. Mistake.

If you were hoping for Vitek's, I'm sorry you missed it. We used to stop in on the road to Dallas or Austin and they had odd hours even then.
Their Gut Pack was (and maybe still is?) a thing of beauty.
The myth of Texas barbecue is strong. It's not superior to Carolina 'cue.
The best 'cue is in Lockhart, Texas, but only because those brands haven't franchised out and ruined the product.

Referring to Scott Drew as "solid, not great" is insanity. He's arguably the best college basketball coach in the game right now.
