just enter the TP and slip quietly out of town. The letters some write are just copied from other transfers or have little meaning. They have little meaning to me especially the kid going to Texas. He got playing time at Clemson. For some It’s more about the money, exposure and NIL deals. When they come to Clemson they know what Dabo’s goals are for the players he and his coaches recruit. I wonder how much Texas offered??

Just admit you’re leaving for the financial benefits. Say so long to all because you are leaving the Tigers because Texas gave you a better financial offer.

There very few kids left who enter the recruiting process that are in “All In”. IMO before the TP it was better times for everybody. The new phase in recruiting is who has the best “ financial package “. ??? Is the phrase Once a Tiger always a Tiger still valid. Were some ever “ All IN on just in enough to see what Clemson could do for them. When a better deal comes along some not totally committed athletes enter the TP ???

What use to be college is now ( play for pay ) football. I am quickly losing interest in sports because of the Greed !

Yeah, it's one thing if you're a grad. I don't even mind if a kid goes to a college like ennis did, competes for a spot and realizes for whatever reason, speed, football knowledge, athleticism didn't develop etc. So they decide to go down to a ga south, ga state, wherever to play football for a couple years vs 3rd or 4th string. I can respect the fact they're that mature and probably had a conversation with Dabo. Just like fla a & m choice.

Presume you went to college purely for the intellectual stimulation it provided and had nothing to do with trying to have a better future career (greed). I was for certainly the latter. If a kid/young adult can monetize his current situation when a small window exists to do so, why fault them taking advantage of it. In this case, do you think AM really believes he’s got a pro future at this point? He likely doesn’t so he’s monetizing his final college availability while the environment exists to do so (same w DJ). I do think they should get a degree and I do think there should be some rules to govern this crazy stuff, but in some ways this is no different than turning pro early.

Side note, also think Barnes and others may have been squeezing AM out as well and we certainly have solid depth at safety/nickel.

while they can - but I also don't include them in the "Clemson Man" category either.

The "Committed" posts are laughable (they obviously don't know the meaning of the word) and, yes, their "Good-Bye notes" should simply say "Someone else showed me the money".

I am referring to kids who allow schools like Clemson to spend thousands of dollars and time building relationships during the recruiting process. They select Clemson. We invest more money in these athletes then for some reasons mainly better financial offers they enter the TP for a better offer. There is a difference in a student athlete who receives a free education while I worked my way through college and paid over $125,000 for my daughter’s Clemson degree fo better opportunities.

There is a difference in trying to pay to better yourself and these enabled athletes some who receive a free education plus they are in it for the money only. Not an education !!! That’s Greed

It’s sad if you can’t see the difference !!! $$$$$$$$$

I don’t like the transfer portal UNLESS they have to sit out a year. The way it is now is ridiculous. It’s out of control. I also don’t like pay for play the way it is. I do understand these kids wanting to get on the field and play and also getting some money. I would be the same way if it was me. The NCAA must change this immediately and WHAT are they waiting on?
I realize many of these kids have had difficult lives with not a lot of money so I really empathize with them and believe they deserve some money but the way it is now has got to change to something more reasonable.

The federal court in Virgina overturned the rule set by the NCAA where kids have to sit out a year and can only transfer 1 time. So the TP is wide open and a kid can transfer as man times as they want to. It’s increasing the AD’s cost in recruiting and trying to fielding a full roster.

The players are quickly gaining more advantages and more control over the AD, coaches and the athletic programs.

Going to College is Greedy?

That mentality is interesting. So anything we do to better ourselves and provide for the future family is out of GREED? Why not lust? Drunkenness? The last two were much more accurate descriptions of my college years. How greedy can you be while earning no money at age 18?
Wow, bummer, I thought I was preparing to be a contributor rather than a taker. My life has been totally about greed, because I’ve been somewhat economically successful? Is it greedy to be self sufficient? Should I find the people I have been generous to and demand my money back? Gosh, I feel so badly now. As a Clemson grad, I have two options - greed or homelessness. That’s tough to swallow.
You can judge other people’s actions, but not their motives. One guy wants fast cars, fast women. Others may have an actual need beyond what we know.
I think I can agree that YOU are greedy and SOME players are greedy.

You sadly have never looked at the list of players in the Portal because the majority have never started a game, will not receive a dime and will drop down in class in hopes of just playing.

Yes I have looked at every name. If you come to Clemson work hard and put in the effort you will get playing time. I can’t sing or play a musical instrument but I would like to be able to. So is it unfair that I can’t be part of Clemson’s band. ??? Some of the players are just not talented enough to play college pay for play football. But they receive a free education and other perks the non student athletes do not receive !

I am just #### tired of these athletes jumping from program to program and asking for more and more perks and money. We are crippling these kids future. Especially the ones that do not make it to the NFL, NBA, MLB or other professional athletes.

I have had to earn my way through life. We are teaching these kids because they can catch or throw a football they deserve to be paid, even though they are receiving a Free Education with additional perks thrown in. Loyalty, commitment, loyalty, respect are no longer part of most kids personalities. Money and material things seem to matter more than a college degree.

I have no objection to student-athletes benefitting financially from their names, likenesses, and images. That said, I am also a firm believer that there needs to be some degree of governance and control over both NIL and the transfer portal to minimize if not eliminate the inevitable albeit unintended lawlessness and misconduct that has resulted since the current system has been effectively left unregulated and unsupervised.

I mean some of these guys are going to places like Ga State or even FCS schools, pretty sure they aren’t all leaving for NIL. I’d venture to guess some of them just want to finish out their college years playing instead of riding the pine. Putting up video game numbers against an inferior opponent is probably better for their already slim NFL chances so why should we be so critical of them for trying to better their future?

If you knew you were never going to be promoted at work would you stay there forever for fear of not being “all in” or would you go find a job that gave you a chance to do what you want?

I did not say all players I said some players. But allowing a way out in many cases may teach them when it gets tuff just quit and go to a school where getting playing time is easier.

Dabo’s man focus is to build boys into good solid men that want be going to the NFL. Many programs are not worried about a kids future after no football.

It may be that the only thing that can clean the sport up is the fans turning their backs on it. As long as the power brokers of the sport are making more money, more money, more money the could give a da-- how corrupt and lawless everything about it is. The fans get across the message clean this garbage up or I'm done it gets their attention, or should, because it threatens the only thing that matters to them which is making money.

I thought Makuba had a child back home in Texas? Is it better to keep you happy or his family? Is that greed, or is that doing what’s best for your family? Disappointed, but cannot hate the guy.

You spent 125K on your daughter’s education. Give him an opportunity to put some money towards his family.

He loves his teammates. He loves his family more.
