I was going into the Easley Walmart this morning and as I approached the doors, I noticed a couple maybe in their mid 60’s, approaching the doors as well. I paused to let them enter first and as I walked in behind them, the man said “Where’s Clemson?”
I was wearing a Clemson shirt which is pretty normal and realized he was talking to me. I looked at the guy and something just made me respond “Well, I guess this is where I ask what part of Ohio you are from?”
The woman busted out laughing and this dweeby looking guy stammered “I…I am from Ohio. But…but, I’m not an Ohio State fan. How did you know?”
I just looked at him and said “Some things are just obvious.” And I walked away as the lady was still laughing and he was trying to pick his jaw up off the floor.
The unplanned situations are sometimes the best.

This would describe many of my encounters in Mount Unpleasant....which seems to have turned into a suburb of Cincinnati.

OMG!!!! I’m still laughing! Even better, the man honestly didn’t know where he was. I’m glad his wife found it amusing! She’ll be telling that story for years to come. Right now I’m wondering if they were my in-laws. JK they know where Clemson is. We put Tiger Paw stickers on their license plates whenever they come visit just to irritate them! Thanks for the Monday afternoon laugh!!

Yes there are plenty around me as well unfortunately. Most do not talk very much though which works out great for myself.

There was just something about the look in this guys face and how he said “where’s Clemson?” They weren’t wearing any fan apparel or anything at all to give them away. He just very much looked and sounded the part. Also made me laugh how quickly he wanted to tell me he wasn’t a fan of Ohio St. 😂

This reminds me of a prank I used to pull while in the Navy.

I taught at Nuclear Power School. We had a new class come in about every 3 months, so I got fresh faces.
When a Petty Officer would make a stupid statement in class, one where3 the others in the class would be laughing, I would simply ask him, "Are you from NY?" Most of the time they would say no and I would alter my prank to suit them. But occasionally I would get lucky and he would say, "Yes, sir."
One time the Petty offiver swelled up with pride and said, "Yes, sir, I sure am. How did you know?" I responded, "Well, I figured you were. I just read something yesterday that said the population of NY is very dense."

I really had no intentions going into this. And I normally don’t think fast enough to say something in these situations so it was one of those things that just happened. But I did laugh about it most of the afternoon.
