ESPN bracketology update

ESPN's latest bracketology has Clemson as a 7-seed facing an opponent from earlier this season, TCU, in Indianapolis.

The assessment has three ACC teams in the field, with Wake Forest now in the First Four Out.

The projection is quite a difference from CBS' assessment, which has Clemson has a 3-seed. That one also has just three ACC teams in, with NC State and Wake Forest in the First Four Out.

Expansion hasn't been kind to the league if bracketology is only projecting 3 ACC teams in the field.

More automatic bids, more mid-majors, and more basketball powers in the West make it a harder now than it used to be when most of the really good basketball was played by big schools in the Midwest and East Coast.

Not sure I can agree with your logic

There are now more slots (68) for teams and they have certainly outpaced the additions of automatic qualifiers. If mid majors and/or west coast teams are taking spots, then they’ve passed the East coast teams. We’re still behind a majority of all categories

Also, the ACC has more members now so that should provide more opportunities to participate, albeit at a lower percentage of the total conference members

I was told that the ACC has 8-10 very good teams.

Maybe as a whole but the same acc has always had a team or 2 make a deep run in the big dance every year, with a couple of champions, despite the lack of teams being put in from the conference. I'd say the acc has done more with little than other conferences that have put it way more every year.

The ACC only has 3 teams in, one of them being Clemson. Look, I love Clemson basketball as much as anyone, but the ACC has to be nervous knowing only 20% of their teams have a shot at getting in according to ESPN, and 33% of those teams are coached by CBB. I just hope this doesn't put additional pressure on CBB. He's a great coach, who I defend, but I don't think he responds as well to higher expectations as he does to lower ones. Hopefully WF or NC State can get in if we slip.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.
