The darndest things

After 2 turkey hunts on different spots where I have permission and not seeing or hearing any birds, today I was driving in the middle of the town of Abbeville and 3 turkeys were standing in someone’s driveway. At least that proves me wrong thinking they are extinct.

Had one crossing the road in front of me just above Grits & Groceries this afternoon. Took flight at just the last moment. Kinda funny how they do not like to fly.

Been on that road many times

Once had a deer jump from a bank along the road and it almost cleared the entire highway

I saw a turkey in our subdivision just last week, so they seem to have transitioned to the more urban lifestyle.

I can relate. I live in the country on 8 acres that borders thousands of acres of hunting land that is broken up and owned by various people. Our hunting land is on the other side of it. Basically, I drive about 2-3 miles to get around the property not owned by us to go hunting on our land (750ish acres)I haven’t seen a turkey (other than the domestic one the other day 🤦‍♂️) until last weekend when a huge Tom just came casually cruising through my backyard while I was on the tractor. It’s like they’re taunting me…

Of course, there are also coyotes in the area. So, they may be missing this evening.

I saw 4 hens and a gobbler in a field near Powdersville this morning. He was strutting his stuff.
