Way too much being made of that. Its a cow not a person who cares. Take it to the packing house and make dog food. People are killed every day in every state and nobody gives a D@%N but kill one of Gods dumbest creatures and everybody jumps up and down calling for blood. "Horrible crime committed" says local police. I guarantee they will convict someone to the electric chair for this and then let the guy that murders 10 people off on good behavior. Spare me the fake outrage "local police" . good grief. Nothing against you tigersrule. You are just highlighting the story I know.

People who are cruel to animals tend to also be cruel to other people

It's very common for serial killers to start out torturing and killing animals. It's one thing to kill an animal for food, but whoever did that is a sick person.

It's a cow. We kill.and eat cows everyday.

I'm sure some Clemson fans have killed some chickens or gamecocks to celebrate a Clemson vs SCAR game. Seems similar.

I just hope they got some steak out of that cow

Fraternities are dumb. I joined a real fraternity when i joined the military at 18. Never paid dues but paid dues in a real way. When you pay a Greek organization, you are paying for friends. People can get all mad if they want but thats the real truth.

Yep, I never understood the need to buy friends. But then again, I was the definition of a broke college student when I was at Clemson so it wouldn’t have been an option anyway.

There’s a lot of reasons frats shouldn’t be on campuses.

I don’t know, I have mixed feelings about it ,I was in a fraternity at Clemson snd I made some really good friends I am still friends with, and most have gone on to be really great members of society. however a lot of our behavior was not great. We never killed any animals, but it kind of became a herd mentality toward debaucherous behavior. That said, before I was in the fraternity, I saw a lot of dudes do a lot worse stuff

There are plenty of other reasons to support no fraternities.

Priority Reason #1 - Sexual assault and date rape come to mind.

"Studies have found fraternity men are three times more likely to rape women than nonaffiliated classmates. Most gang rapes reported on campus are tied to fraternities. Women in sororities are 74% more likely to be raped than other college women."

Fraternity men are more likely to commit rape than other college men (Bleeker & Murnen, 2005;Boeringer, 1999).

While not all fraternity members are rapists, men who join fraternities are three times more likely to rape compared to men who do not join fraternities (Foubert et al., 2007)

Compared to their peers on college campuses, fraternity men are more likely to believe that women enjoy being physically “roughed up,” that women pretend not to want sex but want to be forced into sex, that men should be controllers of relationships, that sexually liberated women are promiscuous and will probably have sex with anyone, and that women secretly desire to be raped (Boeringer, 1999).

Qualitative research suggests that fraternity culture includes group norms that reinforce within group attitudes perpetuating sexual coercion against women. These cultural norms have the potential to exert powerful influences on men’s behavior (Boswell & Spade; 1996)

---
So as a father of two daughters, I hope more Moms and Dads are teaching, raising and rearing their boys to respect girls/women and to be true gentlemen and not sexual predators.

I was in a fraternity and yes we sometimes acted like #########, but no worse than the dudes in Johnsotne. That being said, killing an animal is weirdly sick, so they probably need some discipline.

Dunno about all that.

If you screwed up bad enough in a Johnstone dorm room, you could get kicked out.

If you screwed up in the frat quad, Daddy took care of it.

Agree 100%. They are an excuse to act like idiots and if you follow the money, you realize that the “national organizations” are raking it in. Especially from the female fraternities.

There are good and bad fraternities. I was in one at Clemson back in the 70’s. I never saw any hazing but we did do some things that are seen today as politically incorrect. Most of my fraternity brothers have been highly successful in their business career. Most US presidents were at one time in a fraternity. Even today my closest friends are the people I met in my fraternity. For me it was a way for me to be with people that I had things in common with. I don’t regret it at all.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of this at all. I'm no PETA supporter, and I believe that slaughtering livestock is a normal and necessary part of agriculture, but there's a right way and a wrong way to go about it, and this really just makes me sad. When you slaughter a cow (or any animal for that matter) to be eaten, it needs to be done ethically, meaning quickly and with proper technique so that the animal is not made to suffer or experience pain. I (and many others) also believe in a certain level of principle: that when you slaughter an animal, it should be for a practical purpose, such as the use of its meat, hide, etc., and respect should still be shown. Simply killing an animal for the sake of killing as some type of cruel joke is a terrible thing to do in my opinion. To reference what someone else mentioned in the thread, if someone wants to properly slaughter a chicken, cow, or other appropriate animal that they legally own or have purchased to eat in honor of a rivalry series, that's fine by me. But killing a cow just for the sake of doing so, carving up its body with derogatory words, and then leaving it out on a lawn is really just an act of cruelty that should have never been done, and I feel sad for the animal. I just hope that they slaughtered the cow properly so that it didn't have to be in pain. I find it particularly disturbing that this was an agriculture fraternity that did this. They, of all people, should know the things I just listed, and ought to be ambassadors of the importance of ethical and proper treatment of livestock, which farmers understand the importance of more than anyone else. Just a really sad situation all round.

I'm not believing any cruelty was done to that cow before the autopsy.

If the cow died of natural causes then I exonerate the guys who carried it there and cut on it. I've carved up a bunch of steaks knowing that the cows didn't die of natural causes.

This is a better argument against sociopaths than fraternities.***

I was in a fraternity back in the 70's when in college and enjoyed my experience greatly. While there were many immature moments I don't feel it was anything different than guys who lived in the dorms. My fraternity brothers have gone on to be very successful businessmen, pharmacists, engineers, lawyers, FBI agents, and military officers. In fact one was just on "Meet The Press" last Sunday as a member of the House Intelligence Committee. To label the actions of one fraternity is a broad stroke. I have had friendships with 40 guys for a lifetime. We do regular catch-up sessions via zoom from across the country. How many of your dorm mates have you kept with up for the last 45 years?
