Maybe, but knowing how much Dabo has been loved over the years by the most of Tiger nation and T-Net, it's hurtful and it's embarrassing that Dabo took the program that was running like a well-oiled machine and broke by tampering with parts that had kept our Tiger FB machine running so well. Let me explain what I meant by tampering, when a part of the wheel that he had originally built had to changed out, he replaced those parts with cheaper parts that wasn't made nowhere close to the same mold of the parts that were change out, and it began before Brent and Tony left, it started with replacing Jeff Scott with Tyler Grisham, and the cracks in the wheel got bigger with the replacement of BV and Tony.

I will say that I think that the reason Dabo was unable to see that Streeter wasn't the coach that he believed that he was, was mainly bc DW4 and Trevor Lawrence really didn't need much if any QB coaching, and Streeter's value showed up with the coaching of DJ and Cade....

This article was quite misleading, implying that Clemson hasn't seen their own exodus of players from the program and saying that "Dabo keeps his players".

The reason Clemson has slipped the last few years is 2 reasons: 1) We have whiffed on almost every blue chip offensive player in the last 4 recruiting classes, 2) We have lost meaningful depth through transfers over the last 3 seasons.

I would not say whiffed on “every”, but would say “most”…

and that is due primarily to COVID years and NIL corrupting recruiting. And now that campus visits are back and the consequences of chasing temporary NIL $ over longer term career goals is starting to become realized, the pendulum is swinging back in Dabo’s favor. I still would stick to my guns and build through recruiting high caliber and high character student athletes and let the mercenary folks do their thing. In the mercenary world, there is no honor among them. They are just one flash point from imploding in on themselves.

Valid point about offense but I saw 2019 class was re-ranked and moved up. Transfers out have hurt depth, but none that I can recall really lit up with great performances at their next destination. Maybe the DB that went to Georgia but in his case he was basically shown the door.

Chez Mellusi has been a stud for Wisc. when he hasn't been hurt. He woukd have been an asset but when he left he was behind ETN and Pace.

DJ’s really the only one I’d call an outright miss and he even had a few good games. We’ve lost a few players to the transfer portal for sure but we haven’t seen a mass exodus like some other schools

O line needs some recruiting wins?

1

Jun 26, 2023, 8:59 AM

Maybe for 2024, as we haven't signed anyone yet, but the last 3 years have been as good as it's ever been with our Oline recruiting.

2023 class of Harris Sewell (7th in position), Zack Owens (21st) & Ian Reed (13th) were all top 300 players and highly regarded.

2022 saw Colin Sadler (14th) and Blake Miller (16th), both top 300 players in the country as well sign with us.

2021, we had 5* Tristan Leigh (4th), Marcus Tate (8th), Dietrick Pennington (16th) and Ryan Linthicum (18th).

Outside Tristan Leigh, every other player was 4*, and top 300 overall by 247.

I hope that they can show out. O-Line has been a weakness. DJ and play calling didn't help. 2023 kids look strong. stars and rankings only go so far. they need to justify the stars

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

our recent classes ('21, '22, '23) are far better

than what we recruited the prior 5-6 years.

Not to mention, we lost 2-3 Off lineman to injuries/transfer that would have been critical to our depth in 2020/2021.

Thanks for putting the O-line recruiting stats down. I did a double take when I saw the statement inferring that Austin has done a poor job recruiting. Tate started as a freshman as did Miller. Austin has been making a transition to bigger offensive linemen which I believe will be a good thing. I sure hope so.

And that we needed to get a young recruiter and position coach in to take over but TA hasn't really done what I thought he would do. He hasn't been terrible but he also hasn't lit up the recruiting world either. Our problem is going after smaller Olineman for their speed (from what I've been told which is weird to me) when we should be going after the behemoths that are bunker walls. To have an explosive run game we need displacement and big bodies are the way we get displacement. Look at UGA, Bama, UM, OSU, ect, they all out height us & outweigh us by a lot. All 4 have EXCELLENT run games but we have to go after little guys for some reason that are hovering around 300lbs. We need more Penningtons and Owen's type players that are 350+. Our avg is 315

Bigger is not always better -- remember some years ago when we just dominated the OU big men? Big and athletic OL are hard to find and also hard to project. I mean, the teams you've mentioned are also awesome at developing their OLs too and fighting for the same big boys that we want and they are rarities.

For whatever reason, we've had a hard time getting OL developed -- the last dominant OL we had was the 2018 season. Granted, some of the issues is attrition (injuries, transfers, players retiring). I'm curious if Clemson has just had bad luck or if most major programs deal with the same.

That said, I definitely saw improvement last year compared to 2021 so hopefully we continue to improve and those big boys we've recruited are ready to rock this year as we're now starting to get that talent, depth, and experience again that we've been sorely missing for a while.

Never ceases to amaze me!! Nobody ever asks Saban to re-prove himself over and over. It is assumed old Nick knows what he is doing. Dabo, however, is a different animal in the eyes of the modern day media. They all want him to fail and they continually look for ###### in his armor. His Christian beliefs make him a target of the Left Stream media in today's world. They still cannot believe his sincerity because they have none.
