I appreciate his willingness to claim prayerfulness as a major skillset. He is confident, but also humble. Its important to know ultimately we aren't in charge, and huge to ask the Man who is. What a fast move to make the decision, then go get Garret! Go Dabo and Go Tigers.

Probably not, but....better late than never. I still feel like we squandered a championship level defense on a "friends and family" run offense coupled with a semi charity-case QB over the last 2 seasons. IF I am wrong I guess I need to read up on on Tony Elliot's meteoric rise at Virginia and Brandon's name being thrown around as "hot" coach other Power 5 teams are looking to grab.

Dabo did what he had to do last year, which was stop the hemorrhaging. With both coordinators leaving, he could have been left with Mike Reed and whatever GAs nobody else wanted.
That likely would have started an exodus to the Portal for the players.
Streeter did great work as OC for Richmond and deserved a shot at Clemson. He was next man up from the day he walked in the door and doesn't deserve any blame for play calling in 21. He did better when he WAS the guy than Elliott's last year, just not enough better.
He'll land in his feet somewhere and hopefully blossom like Napier did.

He certainly implied he listens to all the trash & notices the lack of support for Clemson's leaders from Clemson nation.
What really bugs is the volume of pushback from so many after he said it. I thought it was a brilliant moment of coaching, but I admit, I'm a big Dabo fan outright.
I am learning many fans love that Dabo wins but don't love Dabo. Other coaches CAN win here, make no mistake, & I'm starting to wonder who people would rather have instead. It's a legitimate concern, but again, I am definitely all-in with Coach Swinney perhaps to a fault (regardless of the choice to fire a guy who has an award named in his honor here at Clemson). i.e., I don't want another coach, but I'm not sure who everyone else wants instead & I'm sincerely curious, for real.

I’m not one to gripe or call names. I like to sit back and let those involved, those that know all the personalities make their decisions. Of course, I trust everything and every decision Dabo makes. He’s proven to all of us that he has Clemson first in his thoughts. I like the choice of offensive coordinator. Even with NIL, the transfer portal and all that is so wrong with college football at this point, I’m looking forward to this season. So many question marks on both sides of the ball but especially on offense. I hope we all keep in mind, we didn’t have two horrible seasons in a row. We like any other program had a couple of disappointing games that cost us that great season we have become accustomed. Relax….I think we’ll be very pleased with Clemson football in the next few years! GO TIGERS! BEAT THEM #### DIRTPECKERS!!!

exactly. For Dabo to suggest it was the bowl game that saw him realizing something was wrong seems inadequate.
I trust Dabo, but he knew DJ wasn't performing as needed and he knew CK had the skills...thus much we now know. Was it Stereeters fault to take? Many of you said so, but no one has the insight to know. However, that bowl game cannot have been the switch that turned the light on.
Having said this, Dabos meaning of , "best is the standard " could explain keeping DJ and Streeter. Still doesn't really explain how he noticed only at the bowl game that the problems with the O were deeper than DJs ability to live up to on field potential.

Yes, it dies explain everything. Dabo pointed out that there was a significant improvement int the offense from 21 to 22. Ok, well that's a good reason think that the situation might improve to acceptable levels.
Then, the article points out how the offense ran 101 plays, had a significant advantage in yardage and yikes of possession, but couldn't score. Well, at that point you can say that while the improvement was there, it had reached its ceiling. It makes sense that this would be the catalyst for the change.

That is exactly right. If you read the article or listen to the press conference it makes complete sense. Seems a lot of people hear what they want to hear and fail to actually listen. There was improvement and Dabo was giving things time to develop. He knew this all along but it sounds like he came to the conclusion that there needed to be changes to get this teams where he wants it to be. Dabo was also patient - much more so than a lot of folks.

I think Dabo is also trying to handle things in as classy a way as possible for Streeter. The way he presented things points how that Streeter improved our offense, and even in the bowl game there were good things to take away from what Streeter did, while also pointing out we needed to a change to take the next step forward.
I don't take any of that to mean that Dabo was 100% happy with the offense all season long up to the bowl game. I just think Dabo isn't the type to say he made a mistake by promoting Streeter and that things sucked for most of the season. That's not because Dabo is above saying he was wrong, but because he's not going to throw Streeter or DJ or anyone else under the bus like that. I'm sure he has a lot of love for Streeter and wishes for him to land on his feet somewhere.

It may be even better than that.
For example, everything Streeter did before becoming OC was impeccable. The list is extensive & powerful so I won't go into that, but I understand why most fans had no idea Streeter had anything to do with Clemson other than being Coach Swinney's "friend" before becoming OC for a year, let alone having a Clemson award named in his honor outright.
Truth is while we were still a field goal away from the playoff, Streeter would almost certainly improve at OC here & just as likely will elsewhere by nature, but Coach Swinney chose to go with proven experience, a choice that makes sense regardless of friends, potential or how much any coach had ever put into Clemson University.
He'll do the same if Riley doesn't get Clemson to the playoff in year one, but that's a BIG "if," sincerely.

his network closed to former Bama and Clemson players and coaches, taking his hires and in house promotions as a sign that he has insulated himself within a small circle. It's nice to see a story like this that helps shine a light on just how well connected Dabo is throughout the industry, and how he doesn't shy from anyone out there no matter their status. We hear stories from coaches like Matt Campbell, who recounted how Dabo called him out of the blue when he first took the Iowa State job. One can imagine that there are many other instances like this that don't make the press.

After Coach Swinney's rant yesterday, I'm convinced he reads (or at least has read) Tigernet & many other Clemson-only accounts and voices.
He was trying to coach us, but it seemed like many don't like that & certainly many vocally pushed back against it yesterday. More fans don't like Dabo than I'd like to think, & I don't know what to do with that.

I think some people miss the original aw shucks, humble Dabo that made everyone laugh with his one-liners but success does tend to change people. It doesn't make him a bad guy but his personality is a bit more feisty these days.

He did plenty of that yesterday too, though, to be fair. Frankly I'm not sure he could ever stop it.
He was also explicitly optimistic, even calling out a national title for this class.
Still, the pushback from Coach Swinney was powerful.
The pushback AGAINST him afterwards from countless Clemson voices was disappointing at best & I'll leave it at that.

Dabo figured out at the end of the season what most everyone in the country knew by game 3. I love Dabo, but this is an example of why he needs to hire people he has no attachment to.

No one will be kicked off the Cade fan-boy club for recognizing that CK2’s awful decision to run the QB draw as final play of the first half in the OB was solely the fault of CK2.
Period.
(That bad decision does not render CK2 a ‘bust.’ He made a bad decision and everyone has moved on.)

I also got the sense that the coaches' post-mortem meeting after the OB that was held in early January did not go well and it sounded like Dabo was not happy with some of Streeter's responses to what happened and how it was going to get fixed. I think Dabo was probably losing some confidence in Streeter along the way and it kind of came to head after that meeting based on some of the reporting that came out afterward.

Dugatiger knew before the game ever started (even as the season progressed) that we needed a new OC. Glad Dabo let his brain and good judgement make the right decision.

The article implies (but doesn't explicitly state) that no contact was made with Garrett Riley, directly or indirectly, before the Orange bowl.
Dec 30 - Orange Bowl.
Jan 13th Riley hired officially.
That's 15 days. During that time the following has to happen:
1. Dabo takes 1-5 days to decide he will fire Streeter.
2. Dabo contacts Lincoln and asks him if Garrett would be interested.
3. Lincoln calls Garret and Garrett says he would be.
4. Lincoln calls Dabo. Dabo calls Garrett.
5. Discussions have to me made. Contracts have to be drawn up. Agents and lawyers have to be involved.
6. Discussions about philosophies, job descriptions, fit, culture, etc. have to be made.
7. Riley, who said in his presser that he is a deliberate person and thinks over things carefully, has to make up his mind to take the job.
8. Streeter has to be fired (Jan 12.)
9. Riley has to coach in the national championship game. (Jan 9)
I guess it is possible that Dabo contacted Garrett personally in early January (2 or 3). I guess the agent for Riley and the Clemson lawyers could have hammered out the details of the contract. I guess that Dabo and Riley could have talked by Zoom, or even face to face during the Jan 2 to Jan 9 time frame.
But, that would make Garrett Riley one busy young man with more on his plate (preparing for national championship AND making a life-changing move) than most people could deal with.
I'm not calling anyone a liar. I'm just saying I find it hard to believe that Garrett Riley had no idea that Clemson was interested in hiring him until early January. and Dabo had no idea that Garrett would be interested in the job and had not reached out to him, directly or indirectly, until early January.
I'm laboring under the impression that these kinds of deals take more than 10 days to process from initial contact to final agreement.

I mean, I don't expect most people to listen to the press conference from Wednesday, but Coach Swinney was explicit about meeting Coach Riley almost by accident at the annual coaches meeting; they had never met even once before then, for starters.
The coaches meeting wasn't until January 8th to start.
To your point, I suppose they could all be lying, but I'm not sure how to respond to that.

Great hire…period. I love me some Dabo, but it was hard listening to those “winning is hard” pressers week in and week out the past two years. With top ten talent, we should have had some easier breathing in the conference, playing teams that average around 40th in recruiting. It boils down to coaching and development, plain and simple.
