Before we know it we will be playing on the Hallmark channel... we need to get off the sinking ship that is the ACC.

So true. Isn’t the CW like some low rated network.

Doesn't look like a horrible deal considering its on every cable provider in America...

Re: I must be in the .5% - looked under

Jul 13, 2023, 11:39 PM

The CW is offered by WCFiber as part of its most basic package in every region it serves. Try looking under Ws as often times CW will go by its call letters.

13 games for the season.

Maybe Clemson vs. FAU will be on. No way will an away game for Clemson make the list.
FSU vs. North Alabama is a good bet.
UVA vs. Bill and Mary may be the CW game of the week.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This was a result of the bankruptcy by Diamond Sports...

1

Jul 13, 2023, 5:01 PM

Once that occurred, the programming that was dropped by Bally was likely going to be acquired by another network. It just happened to be CW.

Just replaces lost revenue from Bally. Even worse than I thought.

If the financial aspect of this arrangement has been reported, I have not seen it. Just a guess, but I doubt it's more. Heck..it could even be less. The fact that the monetary piece was not mentioned is somewhat telling.

rights already sold to ESPN and subbed to Raycom. What it is, is much better distribution so not sure why the bitching. We might get to see some games we were missing or paying for on espn+. The Bally experience was horrible which was the result of Fox RSN being sold. This might not get this level of games back to where they were on Fox RSN but at least gets it back to the old syndicated days which was good for the lesser football games and a quite a few mid week basketball games

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I dont think it is more because these are

Jul 14, 2023, 8:45 AM

Absolutely - the CW is a huge upgrade over Bally as far as availability wherever you are located. And we are only talking about maybe 1 football game against an FCS school and a few basketball/baseball games each year anyway.

Was anyone surprised that no money figures were included...

1

Jul 13, 2023, 5:52 PM

... in the story?

I'm thinking CW may pay the ACC enough so that Clemson will get about 200K in revenue. A real game changer, huh?🤦‍♂️

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The knee jerk negative comments...

4

Jul 13, 2023, 6:27 PM

...are dopey and uninformed.

These are the Raycom games that were (for the most part) being shown via regional sports networks that are all going t!ts-up.

So we are taking these games that were on the RSNs that who knows how many people were watching - I mean, in metro-NYC they are filler programming on YES network - and now these games are going to be on a broadcast network with 100% national coverage.

The vast majority of ACC product will remain on ESPN, ESPN2, and the ACCN. That isn't changing - and that is where most of the money is. But now we are going to get more money (and conference exposure) for the "leftover" games that go (in most of the country) from being filler product to being lead sports programing on CW.

It is a win all the way around - especially given that none of us thought the ACC had any way to get more money given the ESPN deal.

You guys will hate on anything. You cry for more revenue and the options are limited. Phillips did what he could to generate more revenue and you still whine. What difference does it make if the game is on the ACCN or the CW or other as long as you get to watch the game?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

1

Jul 13, 2023, 7:52 PM

The article said raycom sports sold the rights to the CW. It would seem the ACC will not profit any on this deal. Was jill biden a swofford before she married into the biden crime family ?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: ACC announces deal with CW network for airing college football, college basketball games

Jul 13, 2023, 8:19 PM

ESPN is the big winner here. Once the SEC goes exclusive with ABC/ESPN they can dump crappy ACC inventory over to the CW and make room for getting all the SEC contests on their major channels.

Jul 13, 2023, 9:15 PM

Some of the comments on here are ridiculous. Everyone is after a fast dime instead of a slow nickel.

Think back to how the Braves grew into one of the biggest names in sports. It was by being on free television every time a game was played

Yes, this isn't as much money as the SEC is getting, but people don't have to purchase large cable packages, so the ACC will actually have more eyes on it.

Long term, this could lead to better recruiting, more money, and brand recognition.

A slow nickel is better than a slow dime.

All the brands that are hiding behind a pay wall will not see the long term market growth that the teams on free TV will. That is why teams love being on network TV.

All these comments and no one mentions the number of ESPN personalities being laid off. Perhaps having all of your eggs in one basket over the long haul isn't a prudent model. If CW does well with the ACC package, and I expect they will, future income may increase substantially.
